It depends I suppose. It's no more a time waster than reading a book or watching a movie or playing a game (because none of these things are considered productive by people who get to decide such things). In the big picture (as in, the entire span of the history of the universe), everying one does is a complete waste of time.

That said, I don't think it's a waste of time per se, but if someone comes to a simple or stupid conclusion after a long period of deep though, maybe the time was indeed poorly spent.

If people hadn't though about deep things before, there would be nothing even remotely like it.
Oh, definitely. Hell, computers would still be using vacuum tubes if people hadn't pushed past the technological barriers of the times. We wouldn't have planes.

Hmm, what's that quote that everyone always talks about? Bill Gates said it or something. The one about not needing more than 64k of RAM.

I love deep thinking however it doesn't seem to mean the same to you, as it does to me. Where as you ponder the universe, and existense. My deep thinking is about people, the mind, society, motives, and etc. Basically I like to ponder about people, and what drives them. Is there such thing as morality? Is anyone ever truly right or wrong? Why is a person so drawn to "X." I study people, their motives, and there minds. It happens on a subconscious level for me as well. Whenever I meet a person I dissect their speech and actions to determine what kind of person they are.

Sorry for going off topic, but I wanted you to see what deep thinking is to me, I like solid facts on tough to answer questions, so I study a person, and society to find the answers. My last thought were on right and wrong, and I came up with a basic thesis of There is no right or wrong, simply opinion and support

Fuck no, it isn't. A lot of our technology and advancement comes from "deep" thinking.

You'll need to come up for air sometime though.

Deep thoughts are a great investment of anybodies time. If you don't have such thoughts then there would be very little that separated you from a thug or barbarian who can only think "Get some food, go to sleep, have some sex" I know some people who don't have deep thoughts and when confronted with one by somebody their usual retort is "YOU ARE GAY!!!" and the term "blithering, incompetent thug" would be a step up from them.

Waste of time? I hope not, I'd have been wasting craploads of time if that is the case.

"Waste of time" implies a value in your time that you could waste, instead of doing something more useful. But what is useful? It's what you define to be of importance/use.
Just like with the meaning of life, there is no general answer to this question.
So if you, personally, deem thinking deep thoughts useful (in whatever way, maybe just as an interesting distraction that helps you unwind from reality or whatever), it's not a waste.
If you think you'd be better off spending your time working, learning, playing games or going to parties, then yes: Using those conditions, it'd be a waste of time.
The nice thing is that it depends on you, personally, whether or not it's a waste since life (and thus the amount of time you have left) is, in itself, meaningless unless we create meaning for ourselves.

I recommend you don't try to think deep thoughts in the morning before you've completely woken up. I tried it once and came up with a theory something like, 'I can't possibly exist because I can't see myself, so I have no proof.'

Yes, my eyes were closed.

No. It isn't. It's actually a productive waste of time. Just depends WHAT you are thinking about.

Thinking deep can be good, but it certain situations where it's only going to get you nowhere, I don't see the point.
