I have no issues with opposite genders, or even opposite sexual preferences.
In fact, so far I have created several female characters for a lot of role playing games, a few of them lesbian, and I have also created a homosexual male character.

I'm not "avataring" myself into a game, I'm the story-writer, not the character.

I am a man and I don't care. As long as the game is a lot of fun, I'm not complaining.

Final Fantasy XIII - Lightning (Female)
Mirror's Edge - Faith (Female)
Bayonetta - Bayonetta, duh (Female)
Tomb Raider series - Lara Croft (Female)
Fahrenheit - Carla Valenti, one of the main characters (Female)
Heavy Rain - Madison Paige, one of the main characters (Female)
Metroid series - Samus Aran (Female)

Those are all excellent games with female protagonists. I think I've made my point.

For some reason, I like playing games as a woman. Does that make me open minded, or just a perv?

I'll have to choose b, because games with female protagonists tend to be racy. My parents a re a bit to conservative for that. I'm already taking a risk with FFXIII.

My first character in an RPG will always be a Male Character, from then on I generally start spinning out Female characters, but when playing a FPS I struggle to really familiarise myself as much with a female character, but still I'm not as bothered. As for RTS: Completely unbiased.

More games should be like Muscle March because women have no place in games. Do you think Bayonetta would be kicking so much ass without her guns? NO because she's a woman! She should have been in a castle and have a MAN save HER. Then I would have bought Bayonetta.

Naww just joking, if the girl is hot and the camera system lets me get close up I'll play as a girl.

Protagonists' genders don't matter to me. As long as it's a well-written and decisive protagonist. The same goes for protagonists in any other medium.

it doesn't really matter.... but if Hl2 had a protagonist that was a woman, it just wouldn't work.
I don't mind playing women in multiplayer, such as L4D.

Oh and portal was good as a woman, because it didn't really matter to the story line.

I actually think I don't mind either, but I rather games story lines, when a man is a protagonist? They just appear to connect with me better than games like bayonetta where I really don't want to play a 3rd person console-type game. I want to get into the eyes of the character and not be frustrated when I see the player model doing something retarded. Or just showing off her tits because she can.

I don't tend to care, because as I have often stated, pretty much my best games evar (sorry, I'm coughing up chunks of meme) are Tomb Raider, which star the wonderful Lara Croft.

Does this mean I like female proagonists? No, it means I like Lara Croft. For me, nothing except the protagonist themselves matters. I liked Lara Croft, I didn't like Rubi in Wet, I haven't played Bayonetta and I'm not going to, but from the promotional material, I don't think I'd like her.

Given a choice (wRPGs), I play female, but aside from that it really doesn't matter.

The sex of the protagonist doesn't matter at all, as far as I'm concerned. Although, if given the choice, I will pick a male protagonist (you know.... cause I am a male, and games that give you a choice are usually RPGs). However, female protagonists don't bother me at all - we're all people after all, and girls are capable of kicking just as much ass as guys are (both literally and figuratively).

I'm a woman, but I (seem to be the only one here who) prefer a man protagonist. Why?

Think about: Male protagonists include Nathan Drake, Alan Wake, Link, Max Payne, Sam Fisher, The Prince of Persia, etc. etc. Wonderful characters who usually aren't bad to look at, either.

Now think about: Female protagonists include some witch chick from Bayonetta, optional Mass Effect, Samus... Having trouble thinking of more here. But they're usually made to be badass to somehow compensate for the fact that they're female. So, their characters are just bitchy. I can't sympathize with bitches.

That's the same reason as to why I don't generally play games with female protagonists... Actually, I'm the same way when it comes to reading books as well. I don't know, I just find it easier to relate to guys despite my gender simply because I'm just not interested in the same things most girls are. (And no, I'm not a lesbian)

Now I can play a female protaganist game as long as the female isn't all boobs and a cute behind. (I hate games with little character develoment with a few exceptions.)

I could really care less, though I'm not entirely fond of how the female characters are always created from some designer's wet dream.
