The story is about children with severe behavioural problems being put into rooms for Time Out, although apparently these things are the size of a broom closet.

So what do you guys think?

For the record, I'm for non-physical punishments, they're just kids, at that age they don't really know better.

I have no problem with the idea of time out makes your child stop doing whatever they were and calm down, but putting them in a tiny room is goign to far you could just as well use any place

if these kids have behavioral problems and the school thinks locking them up will help sure, but it won't it'll just piss em off

Sounds a little like the chokey... If the kids have problems severe enough to warrant these rooms, is there not a greater issue at hand?

no, harsher

when a kid does not do what the parent says, sitting in a room for some time is getting of light, even if it is for 5 hours, and the temperature is a comfortable -27
and there is a lion in there with them.

Last time I checked, locking kids inside dark broom closets IS NOT "time out." That's solitary confinement, and it's used in PRISONS!!!

A time out is a stint in the corner, or in a bedroom without toys. There is nothing wrong with that. I refuse to read the article because I can already predict it is a sensationalist pile of dung.

20 years ago these articles where about spanking and how it is going to far.

I still don't think it is. There is not even a fine line between abuse and punishment. If you are mad when you are doling out the punishment it is probably going to be abuse. Take five calm down and give out a appropriate punishment. Most importantly try and make the kid understand the reasons for the punishment.

Thats nothing, jeez this generation are all wimps. My parents where beaten if they didnt comply, not just put in a damned room. I used to get spanked, hard.

They did this at my old school. I didn't get in trouble, so I wasn't put in. They did have slightly larger rooms for being REALLY bad, but I mean I was in there once. Within 30 seconds I pointed out structural weaknesses and ways that could be used for a student to escape. (E.G. I could have gotten out in about a minute, if I felt like it.) But yea, thats just going to make them worse in the head later on. TRUST ME.

Well, I was quite the ruffian when I was small, so I got put into what we called the CSP program. I still have no idea what it means. It was for children who had learning or behavioral issues (mine was the latter), and their idea of time out was to lock us in an empty eight by eight room until we settled. I am quite sure that we could have sued. As for me, I am quite well-behaved now, but I rather think that it was due to my own progressions, not their methods of discipline.

Why don't they get them help instead of stuffing them into small closets?

It gives them time to plan their next move. XD

From the description that I read, it is barely even punishment. Until I see them strapped to a cart ala Wesley Snipes in Demolision Man and put into these rooms in total darkness for periods exceeding 2 hours, I'll consider it a slap on the wrist. Maybe if they used the councilors reports to expose them to their greatest fears would I even consider this to be going too far.

I can't believe that there is a school in my city where they have a large room where stressed out students can go to calm down. These are god damned elementary school students, how fucking stressed can they be? If the kids want to go somewhere to de-stress, why can't they just sit in a chair in the office or something?

I just worry that this could be counter productive, especially in the case children with sever issues.

So you think children should obey every command without thought?

no I am stabbing at the out of control children that spit at their parents.
If I ever get children, and they pull that crap on me, it's a one way ticket to the orphanage!

sorry to be so rude about it, but I really can't stand those spoiled brats...
