Me and my friend (who play WoW) recently heard about a game coming out in a disclosed period of time called Mortal Online and for a while me and him have been decently hardcore with our playings of WoW and now that this new game is coming out my friend wants to just drop everything on WoW to play Mortal and, while from what ive seen/heard/read Mortal LOOKS like its a MUCH MUCH MUCH better game and MUCH more realistic BUT I have a hard time deciding, is it worth quitting WoW? I say this because I don't even know what this game might be like and I have MANY friends on WoW so should I just get rid of em cuz' my friends telling me about a better game. If anybody has any info on Mortal or would like to Discuss what they think of it/ what will become of WoW would be much appreciated.

I looked it up really quick... and no. Easily no.

It looks more like a Elder Scrolls game online than a typical MMO.

Well, we all heard that Age of Conan was called the "WoW-killer"... not even close. Many of my friends started with AoC, but soon went back to WoW, or back to nothing. Even one of Funcom's founders quit because of the epic fail AoC turned out to be.

WAR was also hyped to overthrow it, and as much as I must say I'd rather play WAR than WoW, no, just no. It won't ever overthrow WoW, and even if it did, you'd need a miracle.

I have no reason to believe that this MMO will overthrow WoW, honestly I don't think it'll poke WoW's own shadow either. WoW is here to stay for years to come, whether you like or not.

You'll try it out and then the little things will start to bug you. Animations won't be as fluid as in WoW, chat system is gonna be subpar, there will be issues with mail system and auction house or they will be completely absent. You will occasionally crash to desktop. The art will look more realistic but somehow, because of that it will look even more fake than WoW.

Then, finally you will quit, come back to WoW proclaiming you are not paying for open beta but are entertaining a thought of coming back six months to a year after, when they finally polish it up.

It has happened before and it shall happen again.

Pretty much sums it up right here.

WoW is the unstoppable MMO juggernaut. Nothing can or has been able to hinder it. I'd be suprised if another MMO could get 1/4rth the subsribers that Blizzard has.

The only MMO that is going to give WoW a run for its money is the next gen MMO Blizzard is developing right now.

No.

It's stupid to think that game A will be the death of game B.

But if it looks appealing to you, try it out. You can always stop paying Blizzard. :)

it doesn't stand a chance. i once heard someone say that if WoW came out now, it wouldn't stand a chance against itself (if you can wrap your head round that)

I heard this so many times in the past 4 years...

LotRO will totally crush WoW! AoC will make WoW his MMO *****! WAR will make WOW cry for his mommy! Darkfall totally kills WoW, EvE will butt rape WoW!

The thing is WoW is still there and all the subscritions of those together dont make up for WoW subscriptions.

Wow, what a painfully generic looking game. Sure, it's pretty, but making generic pretty isn't all that compelling. I've always thought that one of the reasons that WoW was so popular was the fact that the system requirements were so low it could run on an abacus. Next-gen graphics are a nice goal, but can you imagine what it would be like when you got to a population centre? Ick, no thnak you.

It looks like a very different game to WoW anyway. I don't think it'll lure too many away with their 'Real Time PvP', because people who like that, well don't they play FPSs?

Lets all go play Guild Wars!
No?
Just me?
...okay.

I think Wow is just too good to die any time soon. Dont get me wrong,it will die eventually but it will be a slow, lumbering death, with blizzard squeezing ever penny out of the franchise before the mercifully euthanising it when there are 7 subscribers left.

I'm not sure if WoW can be stopped right now. But look ahead to the future. I think that The Old Republic will cause a perfect storm for WoW. First off, the new content introduced by WotLK will have turned stale for many gamers by the time TOR hits the shelves. Secondly, BioWare and KotOR have a gigantic fan base (myself included!) who will flock to the next chapter of the KotOR series.

I think that of all the MMO's that have been released or are in production right now, TOR has the only chance of taking on WoW. It even may not supplant it as the #1 MMO of all time, but it will definitely threaten it. All TOR has to do is avoid the utter failures of SW:G to become a truly epic MMO.

There's just one thing that people tend to forget. You very rarely leave what you really really like. And when you try something else for a spin, you seldomly will have a real open mind and will compare it to what you like (this doesn't only apply to games either) If you have started your MMORPG time playing DDO, then to you DDO is what started it all, you started with WOW, that all pales in comparison to that, noone can help comparing to what they know. You get used to a certain playstyle.

The funniest thing of it all is that people then tend to complain in two contradicting ways, as an example I will use WOW here as the game someone came from and started to play LOTRO to give it a spin...see if you can recognize this for another game:

"Meh, this is just a WoW clone, might as well play WoW then as it is the same"

"How can I find [INSERT MOB NAME HERE]? He is not indicated on my map!"
LOTRO player: "Read the quest description, you will find a good indication there"
"Meh, can't I install the TOM TOM plugin like in WoW to help me find it?"

See a pattern here?

So clearly, no! Mortal Online won't be a WoW killer, nor will any other game you will ever play if you are deep into that game. For me the same is true for other games and WoW never did it for me at all. Certainly a new game will never ever have the polished look you have come to expect from your personal favorite, be it WoW, LOTRO, DDO, EQ or anything else you like. ;)
