A console doesn't need exclusives to be worthwhile, and the 360 is hardly "done". Either you're a troll, in which case please don't bother posting again, or you're sorely misguided and biased, in which case please try to open your mind to the idea that not everyone is a hardcore console fanboy, that all gaming platforms have something worthwhile to offer, and that the gaming public is more than just the folks who hang out on gaming websites.
I agree, please do try to open your mind, and do a little research before posting such bold statements. Also, Miss Arendt is very right, all gaming platforms have something worthwhile to offer. For example 360- Halo series, Alan Wake etc, Pc- Steam, Ps3,- God of War.
P.s:
Ever heard of Halo Reach? If you havent, look it up. Hopefully that would be enough to convince you that Xbox 360 is very much alive and kicking.

Amen to that, brother.

Seriously though, the last paragraph was right on the money. We all know what happened when MS tried to push the console so early:a loss in billions that could have been avoided.

Agreed it was a loss of Billions... but the customer picked up that bill.

The 3-year extended warranty is a bullshit token gesture, for every console they have to replace within warranty, a user will have to BUY A NEW Xbox after theirs fails outside warranty. Not to mention the millions of users who are not clued up about the extended warranty, microsoft is banking on their ignorance to buy new systems.

You know WHY Xbox 360 has such wide ranging and high rates of failure? It is because it is built on the cheap to HIGH YIELDS. Xbox 360 are building them likely so cheap that it's easier to replace those that Fail within 3 years than spend way more money investing in higher quality control. And it seems Xbox 360 "Slim" is nothing but a cosmetic overhaul; the dimensions aren't even significantly reduced, the failure rate remains.

Microsoft wins, and in the process more consoles are sold than there are people who actually invested in the system. Xbox's 14% sales lead over PS3 is nullified considering the 42% failure rate and people forced to buy multiple units (55% of 360 users admit buying multiple systems in a survey of 550'000 Xbox users)

Warranty fears also devalue the pre-owned market incredibly as:
(1) you have no idea of it's quality if it is about to RROD or already has and has had a botched repair
and
(2) no warranty on pre-owned which is practically a necessity.

Only a company like Microsoft can profit and benefit from selling an incredibly unreliable and sub-standard product.

While I agree exclusives are not the Be-all and end-all, every gaming platform has to have something special, something unique to make you choose that system over others.

Exclusives is one of those, another one is if you have a multi-platform game the release on said platform has some unique advantages such as:
-Extra content (Arkham Asylum PS3 - Joker)(MOH + Dead Space 2 extra bundle games on PS3): EDIT
-Better graphics/performance (Most games with PC release)
-Better support (Team Fortress 2 PC updates)
-Unique online (Free online for PS3 + PC version)
-Unique controls (Resident Evil 5 - Move controls)
-Better price (Zeno Clash way cheaper on PC than XBLA)

A significant proportions of multi-platform games may be marginally better on 360 than PS3 (Bayonetta being biggest example) but both get spanked by any PC release (COD series, Far Cry, Etc).

So really, Xbox 360 has to depend on it's exclusives and they are just SO few and far between, which doesn't extend much beyond the Halo series.

In the end there are very few "system sellers" for the Xbox 360. But Microsoft seems to take the attitude of investing little in a few big sellers (Halo) just to sell Xbox 360s then leave their users high and dry... depending on third party multiplatform games to satisfy them from then on.

...

What?!

Are you serious? Has this been confirmed already? Coz if it's true, this is not only pathetic, but irritating. You mean as a customer you STILL can't really be sure your console will, you know, work even after the release of a new model?

You'd think MS would have learned from its mistakes. Sheesh...
Yes, Microsoft's "mistake" that is mainly an encumbrance on their customers and has net benefit for them. Why would they fix it? Especially when you know it is actually really hard to make a reliable and powerful system that is also cheap.

It sure as hell seems to be as bad reliability as before. Again, Microsoft's aim is not to offer the best value for consumers, but just to get rich quick using every conniving business trick in the book.

Microsoft have always publicly played down or ignored the reliability issue. They aren't going to announce the 360-Slim at E3 then announce the reliability problem is solved... that would be admitting there WAS a problem! Their publication of the 3-year extended warranty; they spun that as if they were doing it because they had SUCH CONFIDENCE in the reliability in their product they could extend it that much. A deception.

They utterly depend on and exploit the general public's naivete, gullibility and brand loyalty.

Don't be surprised if the next gen of Xbox is just as unreliable or has some other bullshit that inflates sales numbers and requires new version to be bought.
