Am I the only one who gets sad when I see talented actors and comedians in commercials for some weird product or a supermarket. I can't help thinking they must have a hard time with the money since they agree to this.
Sometimes I see my idols in a christmas show for children. It just makes me feel bad for them. Especially because I know from interviews it's not their dream labour. What do you think?

Well, I haven't seen Michael Ironside wading through a supermarket with an assualt rifle and bad attitude yet.
Well, I might not get upset if I saw that.
But... I suppose if the greats got stuck in the dumpster, I'd be a bit pissed.

Mr. T for the flavourwave oven, but to me, that made him more awesome. Although he never really was an awesome actor, just a badass.

They have a choice to do it, and sometimes they get paid more than being in a tv show.

I don't think it's sad that they have to stoop so low, I think it's sad what they are usually forced to say and do... most likely not their true thoughts at all...

I remember being disappointed in someone like that, but I cannot remember who.
Also, off-topic, your avatar looks a lot like Sarah Silverman. Could just be me though.

Since when celebrities are suddenly "idols". They get paid for being a face of a product, no matter if it's a movie, or anti-depressants advertsement. I don't give a rats ass about them.

I think it's good that they stay grounded in "normal" life, it makes them more relatable and palpable, and probably prevents them from becoming to excentric and alienated. My problem is more that you see the same faces in every movie (in Denmark at least - same 10 staple lead role actors 'round the board, it starts to break immersion after a while).

It CAN actually work really well, see this example:

If you know anything at all about Einsturzende Neubauten, you'll realise how appropriate this is. In case you don't get it, here's a clip of the band performing:

If anyone's qualified to promote power tools and handyman gear it's these guys.

This advert makes me sad, it stars Johnny Rotten in a butter advert, the dude was a central part of the whole "Fuck you all" phase of punk, he used to bite people and now he just seems to have given up on all his values.

Yes, punk is a bit of a fossil these days isn't it.

I dislike this because there's no real relationship between The Sex Pistols/P.I.L. etc with butter, so why should he promote something which has got nothing to do with anything. Whereas there is definitely a relationship between Einsturzende Neubauten and power tools...
