I was done with Blizzard the moment I learned I couldn't even start up and play their new game in single player mode without an active internet connection. I've never been one to play Starcraft online, but it's been a LAN staple for a good decade now. I'm sorry to see them so afraid of software pirates that they completely remove the only part of their software that has ever really held my interest.

Uhm, it's not blizzard's fault noone read the fucking user agreement forum. Tough luck. their fault, move on
Oh please, everyone knows user agreements are just there to make everything LOOK professional.
I'm gonna guess that you are someone who skips down to the bottom (if you even have to) and clicks accept
So I suppose that you always read the eula before you ever buy a game.

If I hadn't cheated in the original then i would never have even come to the end of the terran campagin.
A: usually yes i do, unless it's a game i don't care about or i've already read it (had to reinstall for some reason)
B: the IN-GAME cheats are still there, people installed 3rd party cheats to get the achievements which apparently affect ONLINE interactions.
Perfectly valid reason to ban in my opinion

A tennis racket can be shared and resold. If every member of my household and all my friends want to use the tennis racket they can and I will not be punished by the maker of the racket.

So, since tennis rackets are obviously like games, I can resell it (game) and loan it out, right?
Tennis racket involve interaction between different person, he is refering to that point, since your movie don't involve interaction cross different player which can't repersent games. You can watch movie "together" but you and your family didn't have any interaction around this media except talking about it? well you can talk about games. So games is like Movie in term of copyright, mutliplayer is interaction which no other media has done before.

Most games are not supported if you use any 3rd party software to change the nature of the game. Blizzard is well within their rights here. They made cheats, you want to cheat, use the official ones.

Actions have consequences. When did this become such an alien concept?
When the internet became popular, thats when.

OT: Boycot them for stoping people cheating on they're own game.. its they're game, they made it, they can do whatever the hell they like, if they wanted to make starcraft 3 full of pink fluffy kittens and ban anyone who trys to spawn a tank they could, cos they own the damn thing.

This is one of the most ridiculous things a game company has ever done... seriously. Wow.

Why do gamers have such a misplaced sense of entitlement? For Christ's sake, they don't want people cheating their game, I don't care if it's single player or not, get over yourselves.
Gamers come to the defense of greedy game companies more often than they should. Doing what you want with a product you purchased, so long as it hurts no one else, is not a sense of entitlement.

I'm sure you all have seen this by now but for those of you who haven't get a look at what those bastards are trying to get away with now. I'm calling for an escapist wide boycott on everything Blizzard.

Now, WHO'S WITH ME!!!

I don't cheat. I don't even play Blizzards games anymore. This is about trying to preserve people single player freedoms. If we let them get away with this they'll just want more and more.
your pretty late to the party mah good friend, this happen about 3-4 days ago...which is like 2 weeks in internet time, like you said "i dont even play blizzard games anymore" which begs the question...why do you care, its not as if their doing harm to you, im sure since you dont play, your account wasent banned or anything. stop complaining about things that dont effect your life, everyones gonna think your just trolling
The concern is that other companies will follow in Blizzards footsteps.
well if othet companies start to follow im pretty sure most people would notice, when someone bans my minecraft account or my TF2 account for some reason, then ill be pissed but until then...STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THINGS THAT DONT EFFECT YOUR LIFE
Really? You want everyone to disregard that which doesn't affect them personally?
well let me put it this way...in the past...lets say week, how many times do you think the avarage person thinks about the children starving in africa?? my guess is none, you wanna know why??? because their not starving themselves, so their not worried about it, the children in africa dont affect them personally so they dont care

another example, if YOUR kid was starving to the point where he passes out constantly how often do you think you'd be focusing on something needless like blizzards world wide ban?? my guess is not at all, you wanna know why? because you'd be focusing on the kid you need to feed

humans are the most selfish creatures on this planet and that will never change, let me ask you one more question, have you ever donated money to a charity that REALLY needs it? nothing stupid like a donation to keep a video game server up?? answer or dont im sure i already know
Ah so since I am not concerned about EVERYTHING that doesn't affect me personally then I shouldn't be concerned about anything that doesn't affect me personally. Makes perfect nonsense.

As for donations, sure I have donated to people with jars and bells outside Wal Mart at Christmas time.
you mean those old guys who dress as santa? do you know exactly what their charity is for?, do they tell you what its for? or do they just stand there ringing a bell and hope that someone drops more then $5
No idea what it's for and I don't think it matters much really in regards to your question. You asked if I had ever donated anything, I answered yes. Come to think of it,I have bought lots of Girl Scout Cookies and Pizzas to help charities from kids in my family.

I am not into all this human hate that has become so popular. I do not think we are as selfish as some make us out to be.
that is where you are wrong my friend, we are as selfish as we choose to be

You know who else people didn't complain about because he wasn't affecting them? Hitler. (And yes I am saying that with a great amount of snide)
are you really gonna compare blizzards gaming ban to eradication of the Jewish community??

While I think the single player mods shouldn't validate bans, anything that can effect multi-player is a no brainer when it comes to SC...I mean people play it professionally so expect Blizzard to take it seriously.

Anyway, no, I won't boycott Blizzard. While I'm not a fan of Star Craft like some, and I no longer purchase Call of Duty games (I don't find the focus of frenetic-fagfests in multiplayer fun, and the lack of dedicated servers in order to prevent user content), I really like my experience with Blizzard and World of Warcraft.

I think that if Warner Bros. or Paramount could get away with it, they would try that BS too. Don't let game companies get away with it. Games absolutely can be shared and have been for years, just like movies and sharing them in your household would seem to fall under "fair use".

Here's something to think about. All 3 of us play Wii Sports Resort but we only have one copy of the game. Fair use?
I don't own Wii but Im sure the lisence allow it. You don't define "fair use" the agreement define that. It is how Law works. Pirating absolutely can be done and have been for years, just let you know.

Please don't.

OT: I stopped supporting them when I saw the new EULA for SC2. A license to play "their game". It's like I'm not owning my own copy of SC2.

Let me guess. You're one of those 8 year olds that thinks cheating is the only way to win a game. You cheap little gypsy. Here's my advice to you: 1, stop playing videogames. 2, grow up.
and 3, quit your complaining. People complain when they get killed in a multiplayer game, I know I do. But i never cheat. same thing goes for single player. Just quitcherbitchin' and get over it.

Godwin's Law has been invoked.
Does this mean that the thread is over?

Did you read other game agreement? All game is like that... Heck even Window Vista, XP, 7, MAC...
You own the "copy" of game but no the game content. It have been like that. Why? owning game content means you can distribute it.

Ah, a totally unbiased article from a website that certainly isn't going to lose revenue if blizzard keeps this up!

Starcraft II came with cheats built in. The only real reason to use the trainers was to get achievements with cheats- and achievements grant portraits which you might consider equivalent to tf2's hats in stature. I have no problem with blizzard taking this action, as much as I hate some of the other things they've done. It wasn't even a ban, just a temporary suspension.

There are multiple reasons to "stand up" to blizzard/activision, but this isn't one of them. If anything, this sort of reaction undermines the genuine arguments about actual issues.
