No, sorry I got a little bit too carried away right there.......my bad, I was meant to ask my fellow escapists if you would like to be awarded badges for watching zero punctuation videos, much like unskipable and the old series "There will be Brawl"? I personally would like to earn zero punctuation badges, they would be sooo cool. Imagine a 'pants on head retarded' badge for watching 20 videos or an Imp badge for watching 5 videos. I made an image a while ago that would make a great badge i reckon. I call it 'Not another annoying Fanboy' badge, In my mind it gets awarded after watching 50 videos. You would have to be a fanboy(or fangirl) to watch that many. Its a bit small. Its basically him but with a very long beard on the computer desk. Its from one of the videos. I just print screened and resized.

The image shows when i preview it

So who wishes that a badge system gets implemented for zero punctuation Raise your hands!! Also, why not post your own versions. Who knows perhaps this thread will catch the always watchful eyes of the moderators and our attempts might be used.

Since I've convinced pretty much everyone watches ZP here, they'd probably be common as dirt in no time. Doesn't mean it's a bad idea or anything, I for one just wouldn't be particularly enthusiastic about adding a common badge for doing something I'd do anyway. But I wouldn't mind it either though. And I like your design for it.

This topic gets brought up every so often and the answer is always the same

Most people on this site watch Zero Punctuation, thus there is no real need to offer an incentive to watch it (assuming that people collect badges in order to achievement whore). Also, what would be so special about a badge everyone has? Not everyone has a Stolen Pixels or a Doomsday Arcade badge, and it shows that you have a commitment to the site beyond ZP. Give out badges for ZP and there would be a load of people with nothing except ZP badges. The whole exercise would be pointless.

(Not that the badges aren't generally pretty close to useless anyway, but ZP badges bypass even niche appeal)

Zero Punctuation brings a lot of people to this site so i think its a fair assumption to make that quite a lot of members watch it. What i'm trying to say is that badges are sort of like achievements (thats how i view them anyway) so awarding them for watching ZP would be like awarding a badge just for signing up, or making one post. Everyone would end up with them so what would be the point. I know you could argue that point with any of the video series but ZP is definitely the most popular.

Just my opinion.

No. I don't really think it needs them. And especially since I'd have to go through the backlog of every single video to date, just to get to the current badge level.

I like the show and all, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to re-watch any of it, just for something like that.

The content badges were added last year to introduce people to other video series and articles the site makes. Since Zero Punctuation is the most popular video series on The Escapist and is one of the things The Escapist is most famous for across the Internet, having a badge for it is pretty redundant, which is why one was never made for it. Your badge design is pretty cool, but if the staff were to introduce it as a badge it wouldn't be for the same reasons as why they introduced the other badges.

The system's surprisingly effective here. When the content badges were first released, you wouldn't have to re-watch/ re-read anything unless you watched/ read it before March 2009, even if you didn't have an account back then if my memory is correct but you may not want to quote me on that one. Besides, technically you don't have to watch the video. The system used to hand out the badges can't track whether or not you've even hit play, all it can do is check if the page is loaded.

EDIT: It appears that I'm wrong about the logged in bit. You need to be logged in for the awards to count.

I never knew about that part.

Sure. Why not. Although it's safe to say everyone on this site would have them so why not just give them to everyone?

I don't really think there should be any "show" badges, so no, I don't think there should be ZP badges. They would be even more common than the current show badges.

Does it really count as "earning" if all you did was watch a show? Hard work.

I got a load of badges for reading Stolen Pixels, and that was after I'd reached a hiatus in said reading. I don't really see the need for them, for all I did was click a link.

Much like in games, I feel that badges/achievements/trophies/whatever should not be awarded for mundane activities.

Acing a ZP quiz: Badge worthy.
Watching ZP: Not badge worthy.

From what I understand, the escapist doesn't give out badges for watching reviews but only content where it's main purpose is to entertain people other than that it would rather pointless as it is mainstream on these forums

Video watching or comic reading badges are already common as muck and not remotely respected, why add more? Badges are a little something you earn for doing something worth noting and displaying, like 100% in a quiz, getting a thread with 100,000 views and so on. Saying you've watched a ZP is like saying you breathe, it's practically mandatory to have at least seen 1 of his videos if you've been on the site longer than 10 minutes.

Hey let's have an "I breathe!" badge too, just in case we aren't entirely sure whether we do or not.
