Jokes aside, yeah of course it was a tragedy. Any unexpected death is a tragedy and the fact he was drinking and acting like a moron doesn't change how tragic it is.
Drunk drivers getting into fatal car accidents isn't particularly "unexpected" though (that's sort of why it's illegal). Maybe if he was drunk driving and was hit by a meteor, that would be unexpected.

Hopefully a wake up call for others, drunk driving is seriously stupid.

Does anyone find it ironic that Dunn was known for putting a toy car in his colon?
Bender: It's not ironic, it's just coincidental!

I'm a huge fan, but drunk driving is one of the dumbest mistakes to make. It's sad and a horrible way to go out but it could have been prevented.

Tragedy? Hell no!

Some famous person I'd never heard of died drunk driving? That's just terrible. Oh, wait no it isn't.

Its called Darwin's Law. Same goes for the passenger.

Edit: Just for kicks I checked out the CNN website and on the home page there are at least 3 links about this story and NONE! about Syria. Whats even worse is that I'm not surprised.

Time for us to go extinct.

Is it sad that someone died? Sure. But I personally wouldn't call it a tragedy. Drunk driving is stupid and while I don't by any means think that he deserved what happened to him, I don't feel any great amount of sympathy either.

The only person that I know will mourn for him is my friend, who is a huge fan of jackass.
He tries to teach me how great it is, but I don't think it's funny.
Like the poster said, I'm glad that he died BEFORE he killed someone else.

It sucks. Drunk driving is one of the most preventable and terrible things someone can do, and a fuck up like this is always sad.
At least he didn't kill anyone else (Unless his passenger friend died I'm not sure).
They both died. The car careened off the road and flew through about 40 yards of trees before bursting into flames. They estimated that he was doing almost 130 mph. It's a small miracle that they didn't take innocent people out with them, now that would've been a tragedy.

To his family and friends. To you and me, just meh. I mean it's not even one of the more famous ones like Steve-O or, were we lucky enough, Bam Margera.

This thread has already been made. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.295405-RIP-Ryan-Dunn-Jackass]

Did you check? Because I just looked up 'Jack-ass star accident', and it was the second result.

I've already posted my response in that thread, so I'll refrain from doing so here.

It sucks, but that doesn't mean it's a tragedy.

A 12 year old dies of cancer? Tragedy. Mohandas Gandhi is shot by a nationalist? Tragedy.

A drunken man gets into a car and kills people by drunk driving? A waste.

This is one of those curious celeb-culture things. If anyone else had got into the car drunk and killed other people as well as themselves, everyone on this site would be tearing them down over how stupid that person was. Instead there will be people trying to defend him across the internet, as if being famous makes him somehow able to drink-drive free of consequence.

I have to say though, I am glad to see that once the news of the drinking thing broke, the members of the Escapist at least have seemed to treat it as the stupidity that it was.

Not really a tragedy. Kind of had it coming, driving drunk and all.

Still sucks though.

It depends how you define tragedy. I was never a Jackass fan and it was horrible that this man endangered others lives by drink-driving but the way I see it the death of any human being is always bad.
