The film was a bit poor, but it opened a window into a separate world, which my mind, which my mind eagerly climbed into and proceeded to fantasise about - so much so that I hardly noticed the characters.

It let me feel, even if just for a bit, that there's something more than this, and as a result, I'm gonna say I liked it.

I found myself rooting for the humans by the scene where the main character guy gets his first dragon-bird-thing and just found the orchestral pieces out of order after that.

The special effects were all right, but the plot sounded like something a five-year-old wrote after a marathon viewing of the Pocahontas movies.

The thing that bothers me most, however, is that everyone knows that the plot was bad and still go "but that's all right, the effects were good and that excuses it". NO, no it doesn't. That's like saying that a book had a horrible story but it was okay because the grammar was excellent. That just doesn't jive, daddy-o.

I'm always very torn about this movie, I loved the visuals and the last 40 inutes of it was gold, but sitting through the first 2 and a half hours was torture, the first hour and a half was a damn nation geographic for pandora and the writting (Especially dialogue) was horrible.

I'm not a fan BUT I'm not some pretentious douche who thinks it's "worst movie ever"

It was good, I bought it on DVD.

I listen movies while I study (I know, it's weird) and having a GOOD 3 hour movie is very helpful to my study life.

I've seen so many movies now that it's hard for me NOT to predict what will happen in a film, so I can't say that Avatar loses points for being predictable.

Watch it for the visuals alone. There's some really good moments in it story-wise, but for the most part it isn't that good. But of course, the visuals are amazing. So... I'd say watch it.

No it didn't deserve an Oscar nomination, but it was an enjoyable film. Overall the movie had some amazing visuals and great work from the cast and director, but there really wasn't anything oscar-worthy when it came to the script. I think it only got nominated because of the whole ten nominations deal.

I watched it once and I was like "well that was ok but kind of stupid."
I watched it twice and I was like "alright I'm starting to realize that this isn't that good."
I watched a third time and I was like "yeah this is a horribly overrated movie."

I think it was awesome, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

You gotta admit though, it's gotta have something going for it if it simultaneously is banned and has a mountain range named after it in china.

loathed it, as a whole it was essentially dances with wolves IN SPACE, plot was the oh so mighty whitey leads the savages to victory against his own kind, cos nature is better than everything, something i find very self righteous, condescending (particularly for the natives, as it implies the only way they could've won is with a 'civilised' white alpha male leading them) and preachy

all the characters were little more than cliched caricatures, the humans got progressively dumber as the movie dragged on, and the amp suits were poorly designed

finally the visuals in 3d only served to make me feel sick with vertigo or something

It was way too damn long for being so easily predictable. Half the time I wanted Neytiri(had to look that up) to shut the fuck up because either she was screaming so loudly that my ears were about to bleed or saying some of the worst dialogue ever.

I initially heard the plot summary described as "Fern Gully for adults" and had no interest in seeing it. But then my friends all started waxing on and on about how the scenery and imagery and creatures and all that were just SO MIND BLOWING that I had to see it just to see what the raving was about.

They were right. My head asploded.

On the other hand, I couldn't take Watchmen seriously. Every time the story would start drawing me in...Big blue cock in my face. So I went and read the comics. MUCH better.

Goddamn, Avatar came out last year and we're still talking about it.

OT: My thoughts:

Good graphics don't make a good game.

Now substitute it:

Good graphics don't make a good game movie.

The story itself was... bad, and I didn't like the characters except the bad guy.

I saw it in a theater that served alcohol. I saw it through skewed vision, and I loved the movie. :) I felt the plot was just touching enough to move me to a tear or two in certain points, and the visuals were jaw droppingly amazing.
