So, I've been thinking about mech's lately, and am wondering, do the Escapists prefer the walking tanks of Western Mecha or the robotic samurai of Japanese Mecha?

Western Mecha includes Megas XLR. Therefore, it wins by default.

Why do I sense an incoming anime bashing/western supremacy spree? Seriously, this will end something like "Warhammer 40k pwns your stupid anime mechs," I just know it with our community.

Out of a mixture of actual preference and desire to counterbalance how this will go, Japanese, because they have the Gurren Lagann, not to mention that Gundams are cool. Besides, as admittedly absurd as Gundams are, they also have Arm Slaves, which could be potentially practical.

Perhaps I just havent seen enough of both but I would have to say that the Japanese mechs look cooler in my opinion, perahaps watching Gundam Wing as a child had a wee bit of an effect on my opinion, maybe :p

Agreed. The Japanese cannot compete with any mech with a Barracuda as a head.

Megas itself is actually of the Japanese mold. True the show itself is western, but it's so heavily dipped in anime (especially Starblazers) that it may as well not be.
Well, at least the Warhammer40k worship hasn't really started yet.

Edit: Oh the irony.

Japanese mechs, while cool, tend to be very impractical since gigantic humanoid vehicles aren't exactly stable. Looking at you, Gundams and Knightmare Frames.

On the other end, we have Warhammer's Dreadnoughts and the Metal Gear/Mech Commander style machines. Western mechs are far from stylish but they make up for it by sheer intimidating appearance.

Hmm, I'd say Western Animation has some of the coolest mechs, like the "overblown-but-almost-practical" Mechwarriors.

However, the Japanese have Tengen Toppa Gurenn Lagann...

It is dipped equally in western stuff and anime. The design is very western however.

I'm all about the Japanese stuff. Western mecha (with the exception of Megas) tends to look way too clunky to me.

I'd like to think of myself as the guy who called you here.

And agreed, Warhammer40k designs don't do it for me.

Edit: Had a brain fart, Arm Slaves aren't all that practical. Something that basic size and frame, given some leg modifications, could be, however.
