I saw this on TV today and I actually shouted at the screen. My wife thought I hurt myself. I already hate MTV for abandoning, you know, Music TV. I watch it for the train wreck of Teen Mom shows because it's a guilty pleasure and I know many, many teen Moms.

This, however, sickens me. I was too young to really get it when they did it with E.T., but that was at least a work of cultural and artistic importance. I just can't imagine how bad this show makes Americans look, especially those from New Jersey.

Yes, I watch Teen Mom but I feel like that's an important show - its basically birth control. But Jersey Shore is almost the definition of pornography - no social or artistic redeeming value.

How do you feel about this advertisement, and the show in general?

[sub]EDIT: I feel I wasn't clear. I'm not offended due to blasphemy. The image caused me to rage because it combined JERSEY SHORE, one of the stupidest pieces of trash TV of all time, and THE SISTINE CHAPEL, one of the greatest works of art of all time. Blasphemy is just a bonus offense.[/sub]

Actually, Teen Mom isn't birth control. A lot of kids in my area have been trying to get pregnant so they can get on the show T-T

Also, yeah, JS is friggin retarded...but reality TV isn't going anywhere. I just don't give it the time of day and move on. The less people who watch it, the better.

First of all, it reminds me of this
Second thing:
But Jersey Shore is almost the definition of pornography - no social or artistic redeeming value.
"But I know it when I see it"

I wouldn't call it porn, but yeah, it's stupid.

Third: It's really stupid, but I've seen far more tastless things.

Nope.

It's a piece of art and is generally recognized.

If anything about this is offensive, it's that the Jersey Shore is allowed to advertise.

Idont understand why this offends you so much? What does it matter? It's just a picture.

Teen mothers are clearly more revolting, surely?

Very much this.

The only reason this get's attention is because it is invoking certain religious imagery and making a parody of it. While it may be of artistic value, it really has no more objective value beyond any other painting you might come across in your local art museum or street art.

Jersey Shore is a blight upon all of humanity, and to even think they could advertise themselves with a piece of artwork as beautiful as The Creation of Adam is not only wrong, it borders on a war crime.

Get over it. You can live in the same world as Jersey Shore and you will still wake up in the morning.

[HEADING=1]NOTE: My following statements are meant for comedy and do NOT reflect (all of) my real opinions, specifically those against religious people.[/HEADING]

Hmm...I wonder...is there a sentence that I can say to insult both Jersey Shore AND religious people? Give me a minute...

Got it! Ahem...

"And now the shitty Jersey Shore has aimed its sites at some of the most well-known fiction ever created, leaving no hope for anyone."

Yes! I did it! I'll be here all week, ladies and gentlemen!

I'm sure the same thing was said about the Three Stooges in their day, and look how that turned out.

Except for the Porn bit; they might not have equated the Stooges with porn.

But really, I don't think it's all that terrible. I mean, they [i/]are[/i] going to Italy next season, the Sistine Chapel is in Italy, so... do the math.

It would be like if they went to Britain and The Situation wore one of those fuzzy guard hats, or a crown or something. Not that hideous, in my opinion.

Really? The Sistine Chapel is not objectively more valuable than some trashy piece of wall art you can buy at Target? It's the Sistine Chapel, even if all art is subjective a surviving fresco on the most famous chapel in Rome by one of Renaissance Italy's most important artists is objectively more valuable than many other pieces of art.

This ad represents everything I hate about MTV and their recent contributions to our culture.

Honestly yes, but mostly because Jersey Shore is an abomination and how it keeps getting put on the air is completely baffling to me.

Here's something interesting about this particular section of Michelangelo's work -

That's supposed to be Adam on the left. However, if this is really supposed to be Adam, then why does he have a belly button? After all, he's the first man - meaning that he wasn't born, but was created (no umbilical cord). This was discussed on QI, for those interested in how I knew this.

OT: Not really that sickening. Honestly, the whole teen mom business is far more disgusting to me.
Even more interesting, if you take a look at God on the right, his image composition is that of an anatomically correct brain. It's true!

You can thank cracked.com for that (god I love that site).

EDIT: To be more on topic, one could argue that Jersey Shore does have societal value in the fact that society as a whole hates it. While I get that it's a joke, saying J-Shore doesn't have society/artistic/whateverthefuck value could easily extend to video games and how they (supposedly) don't have societal/artistic/whateverthehell value.
