I just can't imagine how bad this show makes Americans look, especially those from New Jersey.
It makes non-New Jerseyians who judge an entire state on the behavior of a select group of largely out-of-staters look massively ignorant. So it makes those people look the worst imo.

And honestly, people have been messing with that painting for years. This isn't the first, and it won't be the last. Get over it.

I honestly can't even begin to care:

Actually, Teen Mom isn't birth control. A lot of kids in my area have been trying to get pregnant so they can get on the show T-T
That is borderline psychotic. The majority of the show is dedicated to how shitty these people's lives have become due to lack of birth control. In a country where so many people think abstinence education is effective birth control, actually showing the results might help that ignorance.[/quote]

... ... ...? But abstinence is effective birth control. It's hard to get pregnant if you don't have sex.

Besides, there were a ton of (mandatory) seminars at my high school showing pictures and models of rotted out lungs/smoking-associated tumors/etc, had speakers and medical experts show up, and it did nothing. The people who smoked continued, and the people who didn't...still didn't.

OT: Do I care that Jersey Shore used a religious image in an advertisement? No. Do I care that a show like Jersey Shore exists? Yes.

Kill it with fire.

And yay god came down from the heavens above. And he didst see Jersey Shore. And this abomination of man angered god. Beyond any comprehensible form of anger. And he smote the show casting it to hell, to which he than cast into a black hole to which he than tossed into a waste paper basket in his office to which the trash of said item among others were sent to the Turfra landfill site along Suthex Drive. And to there the show will rot for all eternity, never to burden any entity but Hank one of the workers at the landfill because in about 3 weeks he's going to step on it and it will take several seconds to scrape it off his boot, again.

Not to shabby I think.

I saw this on TV today and I actually shouted at the screen. My wife thought I hurt myself. I already hate MTV for abandoning, you know, Music TV. I watch it for the train wreck of Teen Mom shows because it's a guilty pleasure and I know many, many teen Moms.

This, however, sickens me. I was too young to really get it when they did it with E.T., but that was at least a work of cultural and artistic importance. I just can't imagine how bad this show makes Americans look, especially those from New Jersey.

Yes, I watch Teen Mom but I feel like that's an important show - its basically birth control. But Jersey Shore is almost the definition of pornography - no social or artistic redeeming value.

How do you feel about this advertisement, and the show in general?
Hey guess what? Their ads are working. Now I know that Jeresy Shore is busy poking fun at pieces of art.

Think twice before you make threads like this, because I might just watch this show out of curiosity.

...but no, I find that less sickening than the existence of the show itself... and Jersey Shore isn't even the worst thing out there right now, which is sad...

but I don't even watch TV, so I'm not sure why I bothered commenting... except to post pictures.

OT: I don't find it any more or less offensive than the Pastafarian version. I got over that one a while ago, so I'm only annoyed by this.

You do realize that this was Michaelangelo selling out, right?

The man loved sculpting and had no respect for religion. But when the church offers to pay you absurd amounts of money to do something you're really good at, you're not going to turn it down. That brain thing was actually intentional on Michaelangelo's part. He knew it would be a fantastic middle finger to the church and no one would ever notice.

So no, I don't think even the artist himself would care if he knew what his painting was turned into for an ad for a reality TV show on a network that was titled "Music Television" but played no music.

Also, you CAN'T knock the show. They just set the stage and roll the film. It's the people who are shitty and fill up the timeslot with their awful personalities.

That gif is exactly how I reacted. Parodying famous works of art is nothing new, particularly if it's inspired by Judeo-Christian beliefs (you know, since it's "trendy" and "hip" to be contemptuous of such things). It's gotten to the point that people have long stopped caring, much less becoming offended.

Of course I have no idea what Jersey Shore's about (I don't have cable and I hardly watch TV anyway), but even if I did I don't think it would change my reaction.

People say "tasteless, exploitative Reality TV".

I say "awesome .gif farms".

I'm offended, not by the content of the add, but how poorly Photoshopped it is. Seriously, the show makes a shit-load of money and they can't hire a decent photo editor? Then again, maybe no photo editor actually wants to work for Jersey Shore...

Here in Aus, we have a sport called Australian Football, and in turn have a weekly TV show called The Footy show which looks at the coming round of matches, and has a bit of fun along the way. For a season finale, they once had a picture drawn of the entire cast set up like in the painting The Last Supper, with meat pies and Aussie footballs on the table.

People were offended.

I'm Christian.

I found it hilarious.

To me, this is not offensive in the slightest. But then again, I am quite difficult to offend.

Here's something interesting about this particular section of Michelangelo's work -

*SNIP* cut the photo out, no need for that

That's supposed to be Adam on the left. However, if this is really supposed to be Adam, then why does he have a belly button? After all, he's the first man - meaning that he wasn't born, but was created (no umbilical cord). This was discussed on QI, for those interested in how I knew this.

OT: Not really that sickening. Honestly, the whole teen mom business is far more disgusting to me.
Even more interesting, if you take a look at God on the right, his image composition is that of an anatomically correct brain. It's true!

*SNIP* that one too

You can thank cracked.com for that (god I love that site).

EDIT: To be more on topic, one could argue that Jersey Shore does have societal value in the fact that society as a whole hates it. While I get that it's a joke, saying J-Shore doesn't have society/artistic/whateverthefuck value could easily extend to video games and how they (supposedly) don't have societal/artistic/whateverthehell value.
So... subliminal image hidden by Michelangelo here... God is all in your brain? You choose to believe, but your choices aren't governed by some kind of deity up there, but by you, and you only?
Wow, mindfucked.

Does it matter? It's just a picture. If they had vandalised the real thing then i could understand but this is just photoshopped, It doesn't make any difference.

Depends. Are you upset for religious reasons or artistic reasons? The first one will gain no sympathy, the second one I can atleast understand.
