Ever see Idiocracy [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/]? The Jersey Shore is simply one step along the way.

So... I voted "People are insane stupid".
"One step along the way?" I tend to think of it as one step just before. Last time I was stuck watching watching this, I was seriously contemplating throwing a WiiMote at the TV and blame it on the remote's strap.

lol, ya dude, that sucks. a bunch of jersey douchebags came to my college b/c there aren't a lot of universities in jersey. it kinda sucked, but everyone hated them....except for the hot girls, which I will never understand...
Some women who are particularly dim apparently believe douchey guys when they are being serious, they think they're being shown some kind of side no one else knows. Of course all the aforementioned pricks know about this so they of course use it right to their advantage.

It's shows like this that personifies everything that is wrong with Western civilization. Years from now when the world goes Thunderdome, the people of the future will find boxsets of this shite show lying around & think that, "People from the past must of really appreciated morons. Why else would they of documented this?"

There's no "I watch Jersey Shore" option. I watch it because I enjoy it. After a difficult day I enjoy throwing myself on the couch and rotting my brain with the uselessness of the show.

It's a bit of fun, it doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. It's shameless, idiotic television and I love it. Not everything has to have some deep intellectual meaning.

It is has a high educational factor. You can see human life slowly devolving in front of your very eyes.

This. Also, shameful though it may be to watch it, there must be some degree of pride in knowing that you're not the kind of person who ends up on Jersey Shore.

That said, I have never seen it.

I saw it for about five minutes, perhaps even less. I could have done so much with my life in those five minutes... so much more. I could have poured syrup in my eyes, I could have pretended to stare at a non-existant poster of a dictionary, I could even have counted my fingers. But now those precious five minutes are lost to me, forever.

The same reason why talkshows are such a hit. Easy and cheap for the channels and a nice thing for the audience to see that they are better than at least some people in the world.

But in all seriousness the show is just amazingly bad and I hate to say it but I would rather watch big brother then that sack of crap.

Because it's fun, and obviously scripted. You don't think this is real, do you?

Seeing Vinnie, last season, declare his love to a Freak he had just met at the nightclub, getting her to "agree" to a date on the phone, go get all dressed-up and neat, only to be flaked and call her a dozen times like an awe-strucked chump was the funniest thing I've watched in a while.
