As the titles states which do you like more? or like me do you like both equally?

WRPGs: I love oblivion, fallout 3, Borderlands, and Bioshock(which has vague rpg elements XP)

JRPGs: final fantasy tactics, FFTA, FFTA2, Fire emblem, Tales of Symphonia (the only tales game i've played and one JRPG i think yahtzee needs to try because of the lack of angsty children and turnbased combat)

Ah this thread again, it will certainly turn out well.

I like both, but I'm significantly more experienced with JRPG's, and they occupy a greater portion of the games I love. As such, I'll vote for them.

Oh great, this topic again...

Your examples are horrible, by the way. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are FPS/RPG hybrids, and Bioshock is a straight-up shooter.

FFT, FFTA, FFTA2 and Fire Emblem are SRPGs, not JRPGs.

I tend to swing towards the JRPG's more, they always seem more imaginative and vibrant compared to their western counterparts

I prefer WRPG's a lot... There are next to no JRPG's that have managed to suck me in, with the exception of Chrono Trigger.

I tend towards the WRPG of Yore more (Baldur's Gate, Arcanum, Fallout 1&2, Planescape:Torment, not Oblivion or Fallout 3 that much), but there are several good JRPGs that I love to shreds.

Such as Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross (a...somewhat...sequel). Of the more recent ones, I like Garandia and Tales of Vesperia.

In fact, about a year ago, when I joined the Escapist, one of my first posts was about how bland and uninspired JRPGs had become. I challenged members to name me a few best JRPGs they'd recommend to change my opinion. I bought them/rented them. I played them. I reevaluated my argument. My first thread was about me apologizing for my stupid and uninformed words about current gen JRPGs.

Now, my like for both J and W RPGs is alive and strong. WRPGs call me more, but JRPGs get plenty of game-time as well.

Wtf are you on? Bioshock you'd be right about, but just because Oblivion and Fallout use a FPS camera doesn't mean they are "fps hybrids", that's what Borderlands is. Fallout 3 and Oblivion are as close to the RPG archetype as you can possibly get. I mean, to even qualify as a "hybrid" there would need to be equal amounts, and the only shooting that goes on in Oblivion is bows and CASTING MAGIC. Fallout 3 you /could/ rationalize as a hybrid, if you were stupid. And only if you played without touching VATS once.

As to discussion, RPGs more of late. ME2 & FO3 are the kings of taking up my time. I love older 'JRPGs' like Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and only a select handful of the newer ones like Digital Devil Saga and FF12. I really hate what JRPGs have become, except from Atlus. I'm looking right at you Square-Enix, you miserable pile of shit.

WRPGs,far and away my favourite genre of video games. They make up 90% of my play time.JRPGs on the other hand i cant stand. Apart from pokemon. I love pokemon. But its hardly a standard JRPG.

I'll have fun playing either.

Though, Demon's Souls has been sucking up quite a bit of my time as of late[footnote]Late being the last 7 or so months[/footnote].

Do you even know what an opinion is? Getting the definition of something wrong is not an opinion, it's just wrong. You can't have the 'opinion' that horses are fish and trouts are mammals. Also, if you don't care, why would you make a topic about it?

I prefer WRPG's but my favorite RPG of all time is Final Fantasy IX (cue someone saying it's not a real RPG and me not caring because by my definition that I use for console games it's an RPG)
