Got a summons just as I was starting an overnight shift a couple years ago... got out of that one, naturally.

Just two weeks ago, I got off overnight and back onto a day schedule. Perhaps through coincidence or fate, I have jury duty this Monday. :p What's really strange is that both me and my mother got the summons... I imagine they'll be sending one of us packing. >.>

Really hoping they send me away almost immediately upon arrivial; if I'm out of work all day, my paycheck will be missing $96... that's not cool.

People have survived shots to the face, even a 6 inch kitchen knife to the brain (Guy that got stabbed for cheating on CS in China)

I wouldn't count on it happening, it's incredibly rare.
I think a better example is Phineas Gage. He had a metal pole fired through his brain, but somehow missed everything vital. He had personality changes, severe ones, but he wasn't killed by it. (He did eventually die of sever convulsions, which could have been caused by the brain damage).

However, the fact that people can survive massive injuries means nothing. Some injuries are impossible to survive, and no amount of willpower is going to keep you alive. With the guy who got stabbed in the head, I highly doubt all 6 inches of the blade made it into his head.

They did, there was a squicky X-ray shot of it with the white silhouette of the kitchen knife right in there

Got called for jury duty not too long ago, Luckily they called and told me they didn't need my services anymore. Sadly my dad answered the phone and he failed to tell me until I remembered about 2 weeks after I was supposed to go and I almost had a heart attack until my dad told me they called and told me they didn't need me anymore.

I was summoned but I got out of it through a combination of school and them not needing me.

Jury duty is a weird phenomenon if you ask me.. Just pointing out god knows who and hoping they have a sense of right and wrong to judge whatever person.. It just seems wrong to me..

Luckily we do not have this kind of thing in Norway..
Oh the American Legal system does seem rather...illogical. I could never be a lawyer. I could never argue for the sake of someone who probably did it. (Or did)
signed! i think it's an INCREDIBLE stupid idea to let some random shmucks from the street decide if someone is to be considered guilty or not (anyone remember o.j.? :p )
here a judge will find a person guilty or innocent, due to the fact that he has god damned decades of legal experience, as opposed to, well, none.

this whole jury buisenes seems like one of those crazy leftover laws from the seventeen hundreds.

No. When a person wants to die there mind, body, and soal make it true. Even if you are shot in the head you may not give up on life. If you choese so you will live past it. There was someone who was shot in the head and lived. Saw it on Untoal Storie of the ER. You give up on life when their is to much pain and sorrow and that is what i se as death. In my eyes there is no murder but people trying to get people to give up on life.
So if, say, I banned you right now[footnote]I'm not going to! This is just an example to illustrate how ridiculous this situation is.[/footnote] it wouldn't really be me banning you, but you giving up on being on the forums... right?

Or if I shot you straight through the head, it would be you giving up on life. I didn't kill you, you killed yourself!

See how this is a little bit backwards?

"Will to live" has an effect on people's resilience, but it's one factor. Hardly the most important. If I shoot you twice in the heart or brain no amount of will to live will change a thing. People who get shot in the head and live isn't as much willpower as sheer dumbfounding luck that the bullet went through without clipping anything vital.

So I got a letter that says I'm on call for possible Jury Duty. (I have to call them at a set time to find out if I have to go or not)

So I was wondering, how many of you have been on, or were atleast contacted for Jury Duty ever?

Did you enjoy it if you were?

Alternatively, were you upset/happy that you did not?

I was called once and actually was picked for the Jury. The lead up to the case was kinda boring, but the case itself was interesting to listen to. Debating with my other jurors in the back room was actually the most fun as you got to see the various backgrounds and prejudices of the jurors emerge as we argued how harsh of a sentence to give the guy.

My advice:
Bring personal electronics with you to pass the time while you wait to be called.

I always have troble telling people what i belive.
I in time give up explaining what i am saying.

In the end only i am the one who trully understands what i belive.
