I realize this topic may or may not have been posted before (used the search doohickey, couldn't find it) and I'm torn, so I'm hoping my Escapist brethren (and sister-en?) could help.

I have enough cash to either buy Metal Gear Solid 4 or Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. I rented, beat, and loved Uncharted (thanks Gamefly), and I'd like to try and find all the treasures, but I also have been wanting to try MGS.

Thoughts? Alternative games I should try? I own a PS3, a Wii, and a DS, so by all means suggest away!

Eww.. neither of those sound good. Do you have:

Fallout 3?
World of Goo?
Left 4 Dead?

Oooh, Fallout 3 does sound good. So does World of Goo. Unfortunately, no 360, and I own a Mac, so no L4D for me.

Now I'm REALLY torn.

I spent the better part of my lunch hour today looking for a reasonably priced copy of Uncharted, either new or used, and couldn't find anything better than $54.99 Canadian used at EB Games or $59.99 Canadian at HMV. FutureShop and Best Buy were sold out.

For a game that's that old, it's ridiculous.

As for your choice, I own MGS4 and it's been gathering dust while I played Fallout 3, Gears 2, Prince of Persia, Dead Space and Fable 2. Maybe one day I'll go back to it, but not anytime soon. I haven't even played LittleBigPlanet outside the beta yet!

Well, out of the two choices there, I would say MGS4, especially since you've already beaten Uncharted. As for Fallout 3, if you don't already own Oblivion I would recommend getting that instead.

Fallout 3 is probably on top of the list
Saints Row 2 because that is a fun game that I know because I've played it.
Left 4 Dead is another great choice.

P.S.- The only way you want to get MGS4 is if you want to watch a video read a book to you.

I'm really starting to think about adding Fallout 3 to the poll. Looks like it's dominating.

I played and beat Oblivion when I had a 360... is Fallout 3 much different? I've heard good and bad things.

Do it, Fallout's different in some ways for better and worse but it depends on your personal tastes. If you liked Oblivion get Fallout! :D

Here's a question no one will bother to ask you before they spout off some answer that does not even apply to you.
What kind of games;
do you like?
have you played?
are you looking foreward to?

Also, what's your reason for picking older titles? Budget?
Between the two you posted, I'd say Uncharted (seems like you like action-adventure games)over MGS4 purely because it's more "fun" (which is an unquantafiable element I know)and is something like a gameplay cross between Gears of War and Tomb Raider with the feel of FarCry. MGS is more technical. If you enjoyed MGS3 then you will like 4 because it's basically a streamlined version of that gome with some awsome battles and more story developement.

EDIT: Oh you have already beaten Uncharted. Did not notice that in OP. I need to lrn2rd.
In that case go with Fallout. S'better than MGS4 in my opinion (and alot of others).

I pretty much like most any game... I love me some RPGs, Action-Adventure, FPS, Sports, you name it.

And you guessed it - I'm working with a limited amount of cash (Christmas gift cards) so I chose older games primarily because picking up one of them at Gamestop/Gamefly wouldn't cost me too much out of pocket.

I didn't like MGS 3, but that's because I'm lazy and got ticked off that the radar was gone. I did enjoy the MGS4 demo.

Sorry, reflex.
Of the two, I'd say Metal Gear Solid 4 if you've already beaten Uncharted. both have considerable replayability, but MGS IVs is far more diverse
Heh, I got LBP on launch day. Not disappointed. The MGS add-on content to LBP is part of what sparked my conundrum.

Wellllllll if it's a budget situation...
Burnout Paradise is cheap now. Deals can be found on Bioshock is you look in the right places (and haven't played it on PC or 360 yet). There's also F1 Championship, Resistance:FOM, Motorstorm, Fight Night Round 3, and Nija Gaiden Sigma (again if you haven't played it already) available as really cheap and fun games. Also check out Stuntman: Ignition most people overlook this game because it's pretty simple but I love precision driving and blowing stuff up, it was a really fun game for me and available for around 20 USD.
If you can wrangle the cash then Fallout 3 is definately worth a play, but renting, demoing, or borrowing it first (if you can) is advised because it's not for everyone (I loved it though).

Fallout 3 is also on the PS3, I'd highly recommend that.

Well I'd say MGS4. You will never ever regret that purchase and you can get it quite a bit cheaper than any of the others me thinks. £14.99 somewhere I looked. You'll love it all the more if youve played the previous games and the replayability value is huge. While Fallout 3 is an excellent choice its just not as good all rounder as MGS4. By the time you have scavenged MGS4 for all its worth and played all the MGO you can stomach Fallout will be nice and cheaperer and you can move onto that. Mind if you do go for Fallout 3 its still an excellent game, just remember not to save during the Project Impurity mission!!! Theres hundreds of hours of play in bith games, but if your only playing the single player MGS4 depending on replay theres only about 6 - 40 hours of gameplay.
