Pop music will always exist.

People were ripping on Michael Jackson when Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' first came out and they called him talentless. To call MJ talentless is (pardon my French) fucking stupid.

Now this new kid comes out of nowhere because at the age of 12 someone posted a video to youtube of him singing "So Sick" by Ne-Yo at a singing competition. He was picked up by a record label and pretty much forced to sing some shitty songs with shitty lyrics for teenage girls. Just like MJ and Justin Timberlake...

What is the real difference between:

"And I was like baby, baby, baby, oh"

and

"abc, 123, baby, you and me girl!"?

Nothing...

Today, JB is older and has a bit more say in what he does. He's learned to sing and dance MUCH better and clearly takes his entertainment way more seriously than many "good" artists. Some people get one big hit and sit back, but he's still working at it and actually making songs that I would say aren't half bad.

Before you jump down my throat for that one, take 6 minutes of your life to honestly watch this video. Don't just click through it, give me just 6 minutes of your time. Take off your "hate everything" goggles before-hand too and try to look at the song objectively.

Ignore the Big Sean rap. It's written well, but that guy's flow is TERRIBLE.

So lets see...

The music production on that song is fucking excellent. The video production is fucking excellent. Neither of these things were actually Beiber, but he's got himself a damn good team behind the scenes.

So what did Beibs actually do?

His dancing is MUCH better. He has the look down (which is a huge part of pop music) although he still has a baby face... Timberlake did too at his age. His singing is a bit hard to judge with the (relatively subtle) effects, but he has a much better range and you can hear he has better control over his vibrato.

And the whole time he plays the part legitimately well... enough that I wouldn't doubt him following Timberlake's path and taking up acting.

All I'm saying is that the mindless general population ALWAYS hates young male pop musicians, but if they stick around as they get older, you grow to respect them for living their whole life under public scrutiny and still managing to prove their merit time and time again.

I don't really hate his music as much as most. I don't like it, but it's fine, I guess.

His dancing is not something I'm a fan of. No, I don't like it when the same moves are done by someone else.

The reason, right now, that I don't like Bieber is because of this:

I don't mind him or his current music. I didn't like his early stuff, as it was more directed at 10-16 year old girls. I find his voice, music and style has become more mature. Ever since I heard his song "boyfriend" I kind of started to like him a bit. Now I am not going to go out and buy an album by him as most pop music isn't really my kind of music, but I don't dislike listening to him on an award show or radio/youtube.

He seems like a nice guy that hasn't let fame go to his head too much. I am not one to hate someone for how they look or sing though, like all the other parasites.

OT: Meh, I can't stand his music, but that doesn't mean I actively hate the guy.

That's pretty much what I'm talking about... Maybe it's just the community here, but the fact that people still reference him negatively all the time shows that people still hate him for no reason.

It is the community everywhere. Who knows why people do it, I assume jealousy is the reason for some, but most people are just mean spirited bullies and Justin Beiber makes a good target.

He is thankful for his fame and the people who helped get him there, he is close to his mother and brings her to award shows, he even has gone to his fans houses on their birthdays as a surprise to them and he seems both polite and nice when I see him speak on talk shows. I see no reason why so many people hate him, yet it doesn't surprise me that people do. It is a black world and we just have to accept that.

Bieber is a mediocre pop musician. I don't like his music, and I'm sure most of us here don't like him. But I don't venomously hate him. He in no way effects me so I don't care.

He's obviously not a bad pop musician as he has been incredibly successful (in a crap genre). It's more that he's incredibly annoying and I instantly want to cause him pain when I see or hear him.

Yes it will, and a lot of it will always be bad. The problem is, your question is wrong. Is Justin Beiber a bad pop musician? No, he makes music that the drooling female masses are obsessed with, he is a money tree that keeps on putting out the same generic shit that is indecipherable from any other pop. He is generic enough that 40 year old women want to be with him just as much as the teens, and don't feel bad about that. He is an androgynous sex-symbol mass marketed to anything with ovaries at a phnomenal success rate. How can you call that a bad pop musician?

Now the question I assume you actually want to ask: Is Justin Beiber a bad artist? Yes, dear God, yes!

I don't hate him at all, I merely dislike his music. I just choose to ignore him for most part, the only time I don't is when listening to Relient K's cover of Baby which is quite great.

Don't press the red button, it's a trap!

I do not have any rational reason for disliking this kid. The only stuff I hear about him is from people on the internet complaining about him, and his music is nowhere to be found on the places I hear music.

But boy do I get angry just by seeing his picture. It is completely irrational and I will be the first to admit it but everything about the kid pisses me of. From his overtly effeminate looks (not something that bothers me normalcy), to his high pitched voice, to the way he uses shorty (as in: He uses it), to the way he smiles.... EVERY THING ABOUT HIM JUST PISSES ME OF.... ARGH

But it is not really his fault. So no. I do not think he is a bad pop artist (nor do I think he is good) he just has a certain thing about him that makes me go crazy with anger so I very much hope he does not become popular in a way that increases my exposure to him.

I used to actively hate him, but now I'm just so tired of him. Compare to Bob's feelings on Transformers. Baby was amazingly bad at first, but now every time I hear it it's just grating and tiring. I just don't see any reason to passionately love him or hate him anymore. He makes mediocre, albeit well produced music. I don't think people should waste their time hating him, but I also don't think people should waste time thinking about him, period. Oh crap, too late.

I'm actually neutral now.

I used to loathe him and his music, but since I wake up to the radio and they shove a lot of his songs on the air...

I've gotten to the point where I'm like "meh, whatever". None of his songs are GOOD, but aside from one or two EAR GRATERS, he's music isn't the worst I've heard.

No, I'd consider him to be about on par with the majority of pop stars.

The thing is, the entire Pop category is one big monument to mass marketed zero talent crap in my opinion, with only a tiny handful of artists in the genre that don't deserve at least some scorn.

Once again my curiosity bites me in the a$$. I'm worse than a friggin cat.
Don't worry it will wear off eventually. I know how you feel, in fact I think when it happened to me I just didn't go on the Escapist until it was gone. XD
