I hope I'm not posting a thread that has already been up on the site.

Me and my brother had a discussion about if the Keyboard controller for Rock Band 3 will be a new, fun, and original experience or a worthless and uninteresting gamble to add something new to the already totally awesome game. He was saying Harmonix should have did the whole rhythm guitar thing like the new Guitar Hero.

Frankly, I haven't played Guitar Hero in 2 years, and I don't plan on starting again. I'm totally anxious for the Keyboards to come out as it is just something that hasn't been done before, and I think it'll be fun. What do you guys think?

I dont really know, the last music rythm game I bought was Rock Band, and I didnt really enjoy it that much. The keyboard just sounds like another way to justify a new game.
The guitar was cool when it first came out, then the mic. and drums, then a turntable, now a keyboard. Whats gonna be next? A cowbell?

Well I think its a good idea but personally I have only ever played guitar hero/Rock band at friends houses and I don't intend to get one.

Here's an idea: you actually learn the piano instead of this plastic BS.

I'd hate to be your friends,
"StarCraft?, pfft, why don't you actually go out and construct a pylon!"

"Far Cry 2? what the fuck is this shit?, I'd prefer to go to Africa and contract malaria for real!"

In seriousness, its a game, get over it.

I do like the idea of a keyboard controller but I can't really see it adding much to the experience in the majority of songs. I have a feeling it will end up like the bass where it shines on a few tracks but is the instrument the guy in the room no one likes ends up having to play most of the time.

I'm actually looking forward to the game since it seems to push the genre forward (keyboards, pro-mode, cymbal icons, etc.), something that hasn't been done in band-based music games for like 2-3 years.

That, and my old plastic instruments have seen better days... I suppose I could use a new set.

I like the idea that Rock Band 3 is pushing to encourage players to learn the real instruments. They don't have to, but that opportunity to be so much better is just sitting there on the screen, taunting you.

Clever, Harmonix. Clever.

So essentially, the Keyboard is just gonna be a case of Simon Says and timing it properly. With the guitar, you have to Strum. With the drums, you have to use the footpedal to keep a beat and the singer already has the most unique job of all the 4 players. By throwing a Keyboard into the mix, they're giving themselves a reason to charge more based on the fact that they have an instrument that you can play by pushing a button and nothing else.

you can put it on different difficulties and with the new pro mode you can actually learn to play a 25 key keyboard through the game. so HA

No. Rockband and Guitar Hero are to expensive, I only play if I'm at someone elses house.
But rockband definitely takes the cake on band games, They're just better quality imo, and they were first to add none guitar related insturments.

Eh, I was never really a Rock Band fan. Always on the GH side.

I'll still not play RB for a keyboard. I'm actually teaching myself piano right now(started a few days ago) and as it turns out, I'm naturally good at it. Go figure. It took me forever to find something I'd be instantly good at. I play guitar and bass but had to bust my ass to get where I am now.

Sadly, none of my friends are interested in either series anymore, and since it's a party game, I don't get to play at all.
