Since the launch of the Kinect I've been debating every so often if I should buy it or not. I recently moved from an apartment into a smallish house and I now have room to move around in. Now with a slightly lower price I'm leaning more towards a purchase.

Are there many games that make good use of motion controls or are they mostly fitness games? Also, if you DO have a Kinect, what games would you recommend?

The Kinect is aimed for families. Families and looking stupid in parties. Do you have a family or want to look stupid in parties? If you're the only who's going to use it and also not looking into getting a better physical stature, don't bother.

And for the games, there really isn't much I'd recommend, the only one I can think of is Child of Eden. Kinect Star Wars was mediocre, although is was funny seeing my friends flail their arms all over the place in front of a TV. Trans. Vestites.

I just live with my fiancee. Oddly enough, we both own a Wii and neither care about looking dumb in front of the other. Also, I have younger siblings that visit on weekends.

CoE looks pretty cool but I doubt I'll get a Kinect for just 1 game.

Well... The kinect can be used for a lot more than just xbox. If your really into nerdy stuff you can use it as a mapping camera.. Ive seen some cool stuff done with that.

Other than that, i like it!

It gets pretty competetive even with just one friend.

Its really great for parties as well.

I think if you have atleast 3-4 people there, your all kind of looking retarted flailing your arms around, which is why its even funner.

Nope. The only games that actually work are dance games or inane playthings for infants. That's pretty much all there is for Kinect anyway. It doesn't improve the UI interaction at all. It hardly ever recognises movements and you have to shout at it to hear you. It's much easier and just as fast, probably actually faster, to use a controller.

No, I got the Xbox 360 slim with the kinect bundle because it was on sale and I don't use it at all.

I like it as a party peripheral. My girlfriend and I play it occasionally and we find it a good laugh. I've used it occasionally on my own for the extra features in games like in Forza 4 and I find it useful in Skyrim. But I don't really use it to play any kinect focused games on my own.

It takes 5 minutes to switch on properly, face recognition never works, and there's not enough space. Plus it makes me paranoid that Bill Gates is watching me and changes stupid icons ingame whenever you speak.

Don't get it.

I have it but the only games I've got are Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures. Most of the activities on Kinect Sports require little effort, the track mini games and table tennis are really the only good thing on Sports. Kinect Adventures is just shit. I've been told that one of the dance games(Dance Central?) is a laugh. It's alright for parties.

My friend has a kinect and I dont think he's used it all that much. Even when we have a party its more about actual dancing and looking stupid then turning on the kinect. Then theres the issue about the motion controls themselves. They really take you out of the experience to the point that people have dubbed the Kinect the "uncanny valley" of motion controls

Then the part that really just kills it is without force feedback motion controls are always going to be poor at best.

I just dont think its worth it. It doesnt have any great games, Pulls you out of the experience, and even at the reduced price its expensive

I like it because of the nerd hackery type uses (i've heard a few things from 3d scanner to just plain old boring webcam), as a gaming device no as a general dodad for random project maybe?

It's fun where you're drunk. Sober you just feel like an idiot, jumping around your living room waving your arms, disturbing the guy downstairs. Take that, neighbour!

Nay.

Its a control system that requires an absurd ammount of space to be able to function, if you have slightly impaired hands like i do you basically cannot use it. For some reason the voice control wont recognise an English accent speaking English for commands and on top of all that it only works when it feels like it.

Save your money or spend it on something more worthwhile.

Despite Microsoft trying so very hard to convince me, I don't believe games are "Better with Kinect"

I think it would be safe to pass up. It looks like the big gamer-games would have worked better with a more standard control scheme (Rise of Nightmares), make minimal use of the functionality (Mass Effect 3) or, just completely failed (Steel Battalion). Children of Eden looked alright and I'm really curious to check out Once Upon a Monster but no console is worth its price if you're only going after 1 game.

Oh, Gunstringer also looked innovative, fresh and, fun. It was also apparently pretty good if a little tiring due to the control style. I would say save your money honestly.

There are many games that I would recommend and some that I would stay away from.

Recommend:
Dance Central
Dance Central 2
Kinect Sports
Kinect Sports 2
Kinect Adventures
Your Shape
EA Sports Active 2
Zumba: Rush
UFC Trainer
Gunstringer
Fruit Ninja
Once Upon a Monster
Puss in Boots

Stay away:
Kinect Star Wars
Kinect Joy Ride
Steel Batalion
Zumba Fitness

There are games that are decent, but as with everything, you have to sift through it. Yes, there are a lot of dancing and fitness things that are great, but things like Kinect Sports, Gunstringer, and Fruit Ninja are excellent hidden gems.
