In my last thread "Question about sexuality" I asked about people's sexual orientation and how long they'd been like that, or when they realized it. In that thread, a few people from various orientations said that they were made uncomfortable when they saw people not of their sexual orientation kissing or otherwise showing signs of affection towards each other. So this thread is to compound on that part of that particular discussion.

Does it bother you when someone not of your sexual orientation shows affection for their significant other? Does it bother when someone of the same sexual orientation shows affection for their significant other? Why? Does showing affection in general bother you? Should it just be restricted to areas away from the public? What other viewpoints regarding this do you have? Why do you believe them?

Enjoy the discussion, and please, try to keep it civil.

Now with a poll! Thanks to the suggestions of a few posters in the original thread.

Showing affection, beyond hugs, bothers me in general, regardless of the genders involved.

As for restrictions... no. I have no right to project my unease and force others into making me feel better. Fuck that noise.

There's nothing wrong with a hug and kiss, but when people start to practically have sex, right there in public, that's what bothers me.

ooh, 1's across the board.
Sure, a peck is fine though I guess.

One thing that really got to me was when I was in the cinema in the Premium screen [with sofas].
Me and my girlfriend at the time were cuddled up on one, which is fine, right?
Then next to us was a gay couple really getting off...and they had the nerve to get angry at me for asking them if they could stop, and even called me a homophobe.

That pissed me off.

On no count does it bother me. They are just physically expressing their love for each other. :p

Sexual orientation doesn't matter. Love is love, no matter who you are. A concept that transcends all existence and non-existence. :p

Showing affection in public doesn't bother me, as long as it's done in moderation.

A small kiss and hugging is okay, but any more than that and you need to be behind closed doors. These tenets I follow myself.

So long as they aren't being overly disruptive (i.e; Moaning, groaning, grunting, blocking my view of the Theatre's screen, etc.) I couldn't possibly care less if they feel the need to express their 'love' for each other in spite of the fact that they're in the presence of others.

Depends upon the audience and the driving emotions. If they are 'doing it' in a park or something, and there is no real risk of someone emotionally immature seeing it (it may be at night, or something), then I have no big issues. However, if I am forced to view a PDA, then I only care about the intent of it. If they are just really horny, and want to 'get their rocks off', then I don't like it, if they are doing it (sex, kissing, holding hands, etc) out of love for each other, then go for it. If no-one else minds, then it is fine with me.

I've always wondered about this. I have no problem with it, why would i? It's not something that concerns me so i really have no right to object. This goes for homosexual and heterosexual couples alike. In my mind there is enough hurt and pain in the world already, it's nice to see some love and affection to counter balance that.

I would like to ask the people who have a problem with public displays of affection what there reasons for disliking them are? I'm genuinely curious
