and if you live in sweden and for some reason missed it you can still watch it here [http://www.svtplay.se/kung-fury]

The movie was everything I hoped it would be

only thing that was "bad" is the lenght you end up wanting more
but it´s understandable when full length movies are are quite pricey

So my question is have you seen it and what's your opinion on this gem of a movie?

It is good under the circumstances it was made and as an over the top kind of thing it works. The short film format however breaks up the narrative a bit too much for my taste though. Parody or not I'd like it if it'd be more cohesive. It does have some cool ideas and might be worth expanding on but it is sadly limited by its own silliness and the short film format.

But yeah, it's still a fun 30 minutes and don't let my small hang ups ruin the fun that it actually is.

I thought it would be a normal length movie, not only around 30 minutes.
However I will watch it when I have time [I am at work now sadly].
Also I am very sure I will find something for my Nazi are Evil List :)

Only had the chance to catch a few minutes of it on the train this morning.
Reminds me a lot of the Blood Dragon videos, which is a good thing :)

Is there an option for "Seen it, and was just not very impressed?"

I mean, let's be honest, it had an amazing trailer that would have been difficult to live up to, but the end result really does feel like "How do we take the trailer and stretch it out to 30 minutes?". Very little new was added, and out of what was added, it was extremely lukewarm.

It really does seem they used all of their good ideas in the trailer, and the rest was just... fine. Okay. Acceptable. Decent. Passable. Will do.

I think that trailer would've been better if, instead of showing Viking Girl shooting an uzi, she was:

1) Pregnant

2) Charging at people with two giant axes.

3) They did a cutaway to inside her womb, showing a little fetus in a viking helmet, also wielding axes, screaming it's own little war cry in synch with it's mother.

I think the sheer absurdity of that image would've skyrocketed the trailer into nirvana-esque levels of wonderfulness for me.

I was really disappointed with the end product, to be honest. I mean, there was some good stuff: the choreography and the cgi were both very impressive and the music was absolutely killer all the way through but outside of that I felt most of the rest of it was pretty weak.

The ideas were fun but the script let them down. No-one with any experience in comedy came within 500 miles of the writer so the so-bad-they're-good one liners and puns instead became simply so-bad-they're-bad. References are used as a core part of the humour, which is never a good sign, and the bits that weren't references were snippets of internet-friendly "lol random" humour (see Triceracop for a perfect example of that) which I don't find funny in the slightest.

While there's a certain level of B-movie charm that comes from actors taking a daft film seriously and/or hamming up lines, if the works of Tarantino or genre masterpieces like Black Dynamite have taught us anything it's that these work even better when actually good actors are doing it, so a little investment into actors who can act would've helped Kung Fury immensely.

Thanks to the 30 minute runtime, the pacing was all over the place and the film turned into a series of trailer shots loosely strung together that made the whole thing feel simultaneously too short and too long as the actors drawled through a poorly-written script and stared blankly either straight into camera or just off-center into the distance while plot events whirled past them from one barely-connected action setpiece to the next.

While the final fight was incredibly well-shot (I love it when fights are filmed with one long uninterrupted shot, like in Oldboy or that one episode of Netflix's Daredevil) the fact that there was no big showdown with the Kung Fuhrer was pretty anticlimactic to say the least. Oh and they still had the balls to drop a sequel hook at the end.

Yeah... Kung Fury was super disappointing. Shame, it really looked like it was going to be fun.

JESUS CHRIST!!!!

My head almost exploded from the sheer amount of 80's it can cramp into 30 minutes!!!!! It is the ULTIMATE loved letter to all things 1980's!!

Seriously that film (I thought it was going to be a feature length film) literally personify every single (including adding in that animated bit) things that hold ture and glory of the 80's era!!!

Lastly, I need the soundtrack like right now and that music video with Hasselhoff (loved his cameo) is not enough. I am in dire need of it!

EDIT- Actually the only thing missing is probably the 80's slang word or 80's words in general like radical or cowabunga!

That music video is more 80's than anything I've ever seen from the 80's. That's one for the record books. The song is super-awesome, too!

Haven't seen the movie yet. I might see it later if I'm in the mood.

If you want more 80's nostalgia stuff, you should check out the book Ready Player One. It's a huge love letter to the 80's, and the audiobook is narrated by Wil Wheaton. Very enjoyable read/listen, I'd check it out.
