Fanboy much? Please tell me you know just how arrogant "always will be the superior minded gamers game of choice" sounds. Just because someone might prefer L.A. Noire over Portal 2 doesn't mean that they're automatically inferior with a crappier taste in games than you. That's incredibly laughable. Also, Metacritic scores are not arguments.

No, not much. Very arrogant, but it has standing. Eeee, no, but Portal 2 is a game that requires more thinking, while LA Noire is a game that requires more action, its just the type of games they are, it doesn't denegrade people to prefer one sort over another, I for example prefer RPG to RTS, but it would be very difficult to argue that RTS requires less mental aptitude or skill to complete. I didn't even imply that people who prefered LA Noire lacked the capacity to complete Portal 2, which you seem to have, and I think that's an unfair and unfounded statement to make.

Actually Metacritic scores 'are' arguements, because, they take into account a majority of people's opinions, which is a good basis for saying 'ok, if these many more people, liked this game that much more, then perhaps there's some truth to that opinion'.

Ultimately, this is all subjective, no one could or even should 'really' convince anyone that either game is just 'better' than any other, only that they prefer one because of x, y and z, and that's it.

I'd go with Portal 2 only if you have a chance of playing it Co-Op as well.

If you are interested in lenght, then you should go with LA Noire.

user metacritic scores arent very accurate because according to users metacritic scores half life 2 is better than ocarina of time which is widely considered the greatest game of all time

That's a pretty bad example, considering how well-loved Half Life 2 is (and it's not like OoT doesn't have its detractors). Metacritic is actually a decent argument for "which game is better", because if you use games with a wider gap in scores (say, 10%+), it's consistent with general consensus.

I liked Portal 2 more. The puzzles were a lot more fun and the co-op was really well done.

I personally would go with Portal 2, since that's a type of game I would enjoy thanks to its replay value. I can't say the same for an adventure game where I assume, once you find how to solve a puzzle or a case, there's not much more you can get out of it. Plus, trying to read body language is not one of my forte.

Bit of a blunt instrument there, you're claiming that since Metacritic users prefer Half Life 2 over Ocarina of Time, that the system doesn't work, it does, more people who are on and use Metacritic believe that to be the case, and considering that Half Life 2 came out after Ocarina of Time, HL2 probably has more support because its newer.

This doesn't lower in any way the usefulness of Metacritic.

There are sites that rate Super Meat Boy above Mass Effect, which I think is obsurd, and worst of all, that's based on the sole opinion of a so called expert, often against another expert, so those scores are all hit and miss for me.

Metacritic is the user's overall opinion for those that participated, and we're not talking about a dozen odd people, thousands upon thousands of gamers have heard of and use metacritic to evaluate games they play / have played.

As far as story goes L.A. Noire hands down, they truly have a cinematic experience, sadly the gameplay is completely retarded.

So my suggestion is play Portal 2, and watch someone play L.A. Noire(if nothing else watch a youtube walkthrough)

I haven't played Portal 2 yet, but I can say that gameplay-wise, L.A. Noire isn't all that amazing. Feels like a tech demo, i.e. for the faces.

You're comparing a crappy, out-dated game that is on par to a flash game to Half Life 2?

Please, that game was awful, Half Life 2 walks all over it and sits on it, while classily making itself a good cup of tea with a nice set of English biscuits to boot!

Go back to your kids games, thanks.
-snickers-

This is the problem with getting a bunch of fanboys together in one spot, and telling them to wave their e-peens at each other to see which game would be better. In the end, most fanboys don't measure games on equal grounds. I, for example, am a raging fangirl of Heretic, and would argue that Heretic is better than the entire Halo series and CoD: MW series, combined. That doesn't make me right.

Similarly, claiming that HL2 is better than Ocarina of Time because the N64 can't graphically compare to newer stuff is hilarious. It'd be like claiming that Tetris is the worst game ever because Mass Effect exists.

OT:

LA Noire and Portal 2 are entirely different breeds. I thought Portal 2 was better, but that's just because I liked the quirky factor. -gets out megaphone- Just like how I prefer Zelda: Wind Waker to GTA: IV. Suck it fanboys >_>

Also: No amount of massive-amounts-of-opinions can define the quality of a game to someone else. There's been plenty of 95/100 metacritic games that I wouldn't touch with a 90-foot pole. It's all personal preference. Now resume slapping your e-peens at each other, gentlemen.

I'd probably go with LA Noire just because it's a lot longer than Portal 2. And portal 2 is only half a game if you don't have a friend to play with.
you can play co-op online and the single player is 8 hours on its own, that is hardly "half a game".

I haven't played L.A. Noire, but I have just finished portal and the ending blew me away. It's the sort of game you finish and then want to ring up someone and go OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED.

I'd recommend portal 2 wholeheartedly.

Also managed to get split screen running on my pc and me and my girlfriend enjoyed it a lot.

The co-op rocks for puzzles, the single player is an incredible and funny tale, The only thing probably still worth waiting for is community challenge maps.

But without playing LAN I can't say it's better than it.

portal 2 is easily the better game. L.A. Noire was not really that good a game. the lying is way obvious, the clues are well pretty easy to find, might just be because i really love crime that i didn't like the game tho..
