L all the way. Light goes online, finds someone accused of a crime, and then kills them. By the end of the show, a lot of people had to have been committing crimes and then framing other people to get them killed. Seriously, what the hell man!?

L, because he is the only one with a sense of justice that doesn't force one's own narcissistic self as being a God.

L. I hated Kira's stupid self-righteous attitude and his irritating God Complex. I clapped when he died.

L. Light was just a terrible person in every single way and he disgusted me.
What about L's little care for human life as well as his selfish desire not to help the world but rather entertain himself, thus he paraelles with Light who also parelles with Ryuk.

Breaking the "law" he fights to protect.
Feeling elitist as well as being as egotistical as light.
Immaturity, as in seeing life and death as a game.

However I believe the flaws of Light and L are about the same except expressed differently based on where they get there power from. I am more of a Kira supporter because believe it or not Kira was at least trying to do good in the world, whereas L was using his power to just prevent himself from boredom.
I never said I liked L, I just didn't hate him. That's why I think they're such great characters, neither is really quite the good guy, and each and every person's paradigm highlights and plays down certain facets of their character. My life experiences and viewpoints make L more appealing to me while Kira while vice versa for you. I would go into more specifics on my choice, but this isn't really a debate, and Kira is a still a great character so there's no reason to hate people who prefer him.

Honestly if he was a choice, I would pick Matsuda. Because he's awesome.

Yagami Light is scheming evil scum who lies to, uses, and eventually kills those close to him for no reason other than his own lust for power.

So obviously I'm on team Kira.

Light thought he was god. L was to prove him wrong.

L all the way

Kira all the way. L was in interesting character, and an even more interesting idea, but look at it like this, Light may have been the most horrific person one could have imagined (in the context of say . . . his family) but consider that under his leadership, and his training of others, he could easily have agents around the world stopping not just crime, but WAR.

Imagine that . . . a world without war. yes, he was mad, mad as (one might say) a hatter, but that was part of his brilliance. And you'd be a fool to think L, Nier and M were not as well completely bonkers as well. (I admit that may have actually been Near, it's been a good few months).

Kira was I think, a more literal definition of the japanese term "Kamikaze" Divine Wind. With one might say "a wave of his hand" the force of death laid down upon the land. Murder? certainly. Justice? also certainly. The pure speed of the deaths he would dole out, as well as those few he taught was like a fatal wind . . . see where I'm going with this?

I appreciated L, absolutely. There was no one more suited to rivaling Kira than L. So, while I praised Kira more, there was nothing in that series quite like the two of them together. They belonged, in a way to each other, in some divine, mad, beautiful way they were meant for each other. An unstoppable force, and an unmovable object as The Joker once put it (in a brilliant film)

L of course. Kira did in a way create a world almost without crime, but he achieved this through fear. No human should play god, or have the power to do so. Also, he was a dick. If he eradicated all crime, and all bad people, then he'd be the only bad person left. He started out seeking justice and ended up killing anyone and everyone out of self-preservation. He ended up a total maniac. I couldn't even sympathise with him by the end.

Recently my friends have been bringing this up and since am a huge fan of the death note verse I always join in.

So whose side were you on? I always need a second to think when I consider that it was said "Crime has dropped 70% since I started" Like that is crazy like 70%. We also know that despite Light being crazy he believes we are all entitled to our pursuit of happiness but some people can?t because of the rotten people that taint everything. Then trust me there?s another very convincing side to L's side even though he is a little selfish but that is what makes this so interesting.

So who's side are you on? When you read the last page or watched what went through your head?
Hah, I was the drawing vote. (34/34)

It depends really, in eithers situation I would be either one of them. Where it I who received the Death Note I would likely be the same as Kira, but then as just another citizen, who's to say I wouldn't find that kind of power an infringement of privacy and rights.

I voted Kira.

Neither. Light was willing to kill his own team members to cover his tracks, and L was only trying to catch him for teh lulz. Both of 'em are jerks.

I'm on team Kira, for all the wrong reasons.

I don't believe in his cause and I don't hold many of his views on criminals.

However, he's the one causing chaos and distress in society, so he gets my vote. He killed the most people, he caused the most lulz, and I don't care about his ideology, although striving to become a god among men is always a good thing to do.

You should "play god", you should destroy all that stands before you. There's no god, no morals, and do not delude yourself to become a slave of ideas that do not apply to an inherently meaningless world.

In short, I support chaos and nihilistic destruction, self or otherwise, so Kira definitely gets my vote.

L

Kira represents the exact opposite of what the law should do in ideal circumstances. Ideally, the law should not seek to punish, but rather reform. The punishment of death for any crime does the exact opposite of this. No person should ever face death. From a moral stand point, it is simply wrong. But even if I wasn't so fiercely opposed to capital punishment, I doubt I could ever support Kira. From what I remember, the punishment of death was quite draconian as many of the criminals he killed had not committed crimes most would consider deserving of death. Kira viewed these people as trash that had no chance of reforming and didn't deserve it either. This shows the inherent problem of Kira; you're entrusting all of this power to one person. He abuses this power to further his own goals. He is willing to kill innocents to do so. He becomes the very thing he is trying to eliminate in doing so. Even if I thought all the people he killed deserved it, I could never support such a clearly corrupt and insane individual. He was not better than the people he was killing.

To be honest, the fact that people consider Kira to be the good guy depresses me.

Perhaps a person who kills one person gets "justice" in the form of Kira-murder, but Kira is the biggest murderer of all. I'm on L's side because he's taking that one out. The whole 70% crime-reduction figure is an invention of Ohba's, and I don't think that would happen if a Death Note actually existed... people typically don't try to be caught when they kill somebody, although some do.

Also, I just have issues with Light's morality. So black-and-white... I just feel slightly uncomfortable with people having their interpretation of justice being used against other people's wills just because they are powerful. =\
