If it is running at me I turn and run (because I hate getting stuck in geomitry with a tank on my tail). If it is running at my friends I run after it and shoot it to draw it off.

I throw a molotov (does that actually make them faster?!?) Then I usually get torn to pieces depending on whether I'm playing online and at what difficulty. If I have AI on my team, I let them distract the Tank while I open fire. On Easy/Normal/Advanced I almost never get killed by the Tank.

It might be an urban gaming myth; but Ive always held that setting the tank on fire makes it just fast enough to be able to catch you- while not on fire its the same speed...

Hmmm... I thought that the Tank only caught up to me because of me usually being under 50 health. Still, the fact that all Infected are gasoline soaked targets makes a molotov very useful weapon... and gets me on the top of the Tank Buster list every time. I'm gonna google this. The video below does show that lighting a tank on fire is a good idea in Versus mode, but a terrible idea in campaign mode.

Molotov and run like a bat out of hell.

There was, however, this one time that I was playing on the Subway on Expert; I had one HP, my teammates were all dead, and the flaming tank had cornered in the pipe room. With nothing else to do, I pulled out my autoshotgun, pressed in my talk button, and yelled "THIS IS SPARTA" before jumping at the tank, guns ablazing. I lasted all of about half a second, but god damn did that rule.

Run and fire. But use panic as an excuse to hit your teammates with just enough damage to reduce them to 49 health so they take the speed penalty. Then just outrun THEM.

I personally like to set it on fire and then lure it into attacking one or all of my teammates if i can.
while they are killing it or being killed BY IT I'm often found racing ahead sitting pretty in the safe room without a scratch.

if my team mates call for help I drown their voices out by rocking back and forth in my chair mumbling to myself pre-arranged sentences like:

* "there's nothing I can do for them now......their dead"

* start singing "All by myself.....don't wanna be....all by myself......anymore"!!

* "oh the humanity R2 curse my circuits i wasn't fast enough to save them"

* "Oh it's always about YOU guys isn't it?.......oohhh help the tanks downed me.....thats all i ever hear......did you guys ever stop to think about me and how I'm now all alone...with full health, ammo and med kits...it's always me me me me me"

the last is my favorite and most used!

If it's campaign, I just bait the Tank into climbing up and down walls. If it's versus, I backtrack with the rest of the group after it's been molotov'd.

These steps:
1: O SHI-
2: Mollie
3: Shoot
4: Run like hell.

Ahh yes, that's natural selection in a nutshell you know: you don't have to run faster than the predator, just faster than the other guy. And it works, it always does, I always do it when there is a bot by accident, when someone has to go or something.

My common response is to inform everyone that there is a tank (Usually yell) and either run backwards while shooting, or turn and run till I get to a good spot, then turn and fire.

As a shotgun man, I run straight at the fucker to do maximum violence. This usually lasts about three seconds on Expert mode.

expert use the little tricks to get it stuck somehwere or legg it in terror back to the safe room

1) Envision that is a disfigured version of someone I have a mild disliking to.
2) Empty my shotgun into it's face.
3) Laugh at it's bloody body.

Well when I played the first L4D demo, standard practice for me was to take the fucker head on with a shotgun. I even used to wake the witch up for fun, because she never got 'activated' enough if you just walked past, because it seemed like you never got any zombies come that often when you went past her.

That was just the demo though, never got the full game.
