Honestly. l4d was fifty bucks... a very FUN fifty bucks, granted, but i still feel like owning the first game should at least create some sort of discount for the second.

i completely disapprove of the boycott, but I do think valve has to be careful here. If they release l4d2 as an add-on for the PC version, where you can decide which content to play... i think that will minimize the damage to the existing multiplayer community.

Also, maybe 2 options: 20 bucks for the new l4d2 content, or 50 bucks for l4d2 and l4d as one game. That'd be a pretty solid deal whether you had the original game or not.

Left 4 Dead should have been Left 4 Dead: Beta, and Left 4 Dead 2 should just be Left 4 Dead. Since there are so many things that need to be fixed about L4D, it seems like this solution would have made people happier.

It's not a solid deal for those who own the original (if you sold both in a package for 50), because people that are buying the new game get both, but those who previously owned the game are shelling out 50 bucks more for a game they already have, plus another one.
Selling L4D2 for 20 seems like a better idea, as it really seems more like an expansion pack than another full game.

I won't have the time and will want the money for food and rent by the time it comes out, luckily most of my gaming buddies already have the first one, but there ebtter damn well be some good custom campaigns by then as the current ones are getting stale.

I like most of the new content in L4D2, although I did not really like the video. I like being able to port content from the previous game but at the same time I don't want to spend another $50 USD on it. I'll wait until there's some 50% or more sale on it.

I'll wait till the game actually comes out before I think of it one way or another, but I do like the idea of the melee weapons as a seperate concept to just a gun swing, although the idea reminds me of Dead Rising slightly.

What I don't understand:

They are coming out with L4D2, but are telling us they will keep supporting L4D?

How and why?

They have more new content in L4D2 than the first, and Im not just talking gun models and melee weapons. The new game boasts the new & inproved AI director 2.0 wich will change pathways in maps, objects, spawn locations and more; different ammo variations including incindiary rounds, [flaming bullets] last but not least the new characters; the Charger [I am guessing is a tank replacement] is the only new zombie that we know of so far, [but lets be honest Valve does nothing better than gratifying a series with supurb sequels, so there WILL be more] and of course the new maps, survivors ect. I think this boycott group needs to shut their keyboards and wait for the new game to be released [granted I do wonder about the Left 4 Dead 1 expansions (updates)] I will say this though, havent every Valve game so far been worth the money you spent on it? Because for me they have.

I thoght valve was above releasing a sequel without adding that much, but then again I don't care for Left 4 Dead, so it doesn't effect me.

I personally just don't care. I never fell in love with l4d so I doubt I'll even look into l4d2. It's not like it actually affects them making other games, different designer teams = who gives a shit.

Well, they can of course do whatever they want. But this will not raise my opinion of them. (I am still a bit pissed about HL2 and the whole steam-censorship(in germany)and resulting false advertisement)

Ah well... let's see what they are doing

God I wish people would shut up about this topic. I really don't think fans are in any position to tell Valve how to run their own company and frankly boycotting Left 4 Dead 2 is basically the equivilant of a temper tantrum thrown by a five year old. I'm also sick of the people who passionatley claim:
"Why is there so much hate for Valve, all they do is good and yet all they recieve is HATE."
THAT is bullshit. To date Valve are the most beloved video game development team around and I'm hard pressed to find someone who DOESN'T worship the ground they walk on. Seriously you want a company recieving unjust criticism look no further than Bungie Studios. If people really hated Valve they would be utterly indifferent about what they did.

Ultimatley I enjoy some of the games made by Valve... Team Fortress 2, Portal, Half Life 2 and Left 4 Dead for example but I neither condone, nor condemn the release of Left 4 Dead 2. (This is the first time a GAME SEQUEL has been met with ire BEFORE release.)

This whole debate consists of the overreacting whiny people side or the zealous and defensive fanboy side, I kind of wish this whole silly topic could die and we can all talk about something else like.... I dunno.... Riddick. Yeah Riddick.

P.S My apologies to anyone who may have found this post offensive as the last thing I want to seem like is a troll.

Repeat thread, theres about 50 of these my friend.

Personally I think people are over-reacting.

Both of your sentences need question marks by the way :)
Agreed, agreed and agreed.

Although people have the right to be disappointed with L4D2 being release instead of Episode 3 as they demand, Valve has every right to put out whatever game they like. They don't "owe" people anything and the fact is that L4D2 will probably be a damn good game.

It's a shame it's out so soon considering HL2:Ep3 has been long awaited, but that's the way the industry works. People need to stop taking developers decisions so personally. Boycotting a game is just ridiculous.

Seems like it's basically glorified DLC in disc form for the price of a full game. I'd rather wait for them to release Duke Nukem Forever.

Damn, I mean "Half Life 2: Episode 3".

I just keep getting those mixed up.
