I know gaming is mostly male dominated by I find it hard to believe that people have such a hard time finding gaming girls, every female friend I have plays video games, no joke every single one of them has a DS in their purse except the one that has a PSP. Gaming girls are more popular then most think, it just that most of them don't advertise it.

I don't hate women that play games.
I do hate women that advertise that they are women that play games.

"Other" as in a video game enthusiast of other gender.

I too would prefer if the gender ratio wasn't so skewed towards vidya enthusiasts being males. If nothing else, it would quite possibly make local multiplayer a lot more enjoyable. One thing I've noticed is that when you're in a group, guys almost exclusively cheer for guys and when you're an "other" playing against a guy you tend to feel like you're playing against everyone at once...

1. marketing, still aimed at teenage boys, just like action movies.

2. Most female gamers don't advertise that they are gamers. And those that do, really, are just annoying.

3. I don't know how true this is, but in my experience most female gamers prefer solo games or local co-op/multi-player. I know there are many many women who play online, I'm just not one of them and know of maybe 3 other women who actually play do online (WoW).

To start, yeah, as of now, I'd say gaming is a male dominated interest. HOWEVER, I believe it has the potential to be a lot more as a medium. Girls playing video games isn't viewed as a "myth" like it used to be. I personally have been seeing all kinds of people describing themselves as "gamers" or even just playing games.

Gaming is mostly dominated because us guys were really the first ones to get at it and stick with it, and ever since, it's had the air of a "boys club". Even if we really do wanna see more women in gaming(Most of us do), it doesn't happen because the stigma's already sort of attached. It's starting to fade more and more though with the presence of female developers and gamers. Hell, even girls I know who AREN'T "gamers" are more willing than ever to at least give it a shot. It's becoming more inclusive as time goes by and I hope we'll see more of that.

I'm a woman and I game, and every single female friend of mine games. Every WoW guild I've ever been in has a ton of women in it. I'm kind of baffled by guys who never meet women who game, tbh.

I have yet to find these people that dislike a woman who decides to play games.

I think we should be glad the whole market has opened up a bit more to chicks. We just need to get rid of booth babes (or, introduce booth dudes. Blegh.)
I agree with getting rid of booth babes.

They were an embarrassment from the very beginning.

Unless of course they actually have something to do with the game itself. (I.e. Booth Babes for Catherine)
Im not entirely sure what this "booth babe" thing is, but by the sounds of it, I would find it pretty off-putting as a female gamer (and somewhat intimidating)

A friend and I where rambling on about absolutely nothing as per usual and we came around to gaming and the gender divide.

Stereotypically, when I and many others I know think of gaming, we tend to think of it as a guy's activity where we females just "don't get it" or don't care. As one of the few chicks out there that do enjoy a good game every now and then, I suppose I'm inclined to believe that this is more of a male dominated activity from what I know and see when it comes to the gaming side of life.

So, what do yo all think? Games are for the guy's or is it a bit closer or even the opposite or is the old adage true?

*Note, the other is for those on the site who are not into gaming (wich seeing as how this is a GAMING site...) or for those who do not identify as male or female. Happy now guy's gals and others?
theres no denying gaming is very much geared towards the male audience, HOWEVER thease days especially its not that hard to find games that can apeal to both more or less, assuming as a girl you like the violence and other sutff...of coarse you wouldnt be gaming if you didnt, basically what I mean (persoanlly) is as long as its not on duke nukem level then its all good

Bioshock
Borderlands
Batman AA
dead space
Borderlands
alot of RPG's (minus the witcher)
almost any game by Bioware

just to name a few, I mean I dont like this mentality of Boys=blue girls=pink so,thing doesnt have to be "girly" to apeal to females which some people cant get therough their thick skulls
