When it comes to being a music artist, most people get interested in them either because of the crazy shit that they do, or because a friend gave them a cd for Christmas and you have to listen to it not to feel guilty.
Anyway, Lady Gaga is an interesting example of a music artist that has a lot of publicity, and not just from her large fanbase, but also people who hate her music and this doesn't normally happen with most artists, unless they are fairly huge.
And Lady Gaga is certainly huge, she is not necessarily the most original artist to spring into the 21st century, but she is one of the most memorable. The reason for this is primarily the way that she dresses. In music videos and on stage she has a reputation fro creating interesting, creative and, more times than not, really weird costumes. It's clear that she is quite a creative person when it comes to the visual style of things, but when it comes to the audio, she isn't particularly special. Like most R&B artists in this millennium, she uses music technology to make up for her lack of vocal talent, although there is not a lot of this in action and it is mostly male artists that use robot voices, it is sometimes noticeable when compared to the vocal talents of Beyonce and even Alisha Keys.
Okay, so her actual vocal style isn't all that special but where Lady Gaga stands out from all other solo female artists is in her devotion to her music.
Now, you may think that it would be fairly obvious for a musician to love their own music, but Lady Gaga flattens all of the competition with a phone made of hair. When you take into account the length of her music videos, the number of costumes that are seen in that video, the locations that they are taken to, her lavish stage design and, of course, the use of her own body (I'm talking about the dancing).
In some ways, she reminds me of a 21st century Michael Jackson, in terms of her dance style and also the way that her music videos actually have a story of some sorts. Remember the Thriller video?
It would be no surprise then that a great deal of Lady Gaga's fans are also Michael Jackson fans, because her style is reminiscent of the king of pop without entirely aping him, which I am very happy about.
In conclusion, Lady Gaga is a fairly good singer, but her creativity in the visual medium more than makes up for her lack of vocal originality. If you liked Michael Jackson's videos, the Thriller one in particular, then chances are you will like Lady Gaga's. Personally, I think that she has a great imagination and is highly creative, but her singing is fairly average but she is still worth a look.

I like her, but I am into all sorts of music. Dancey, upbeat pop is good. If I heard her on the radio, I'd think she was the same as the other female singers, so I think it's good she uses her image to distance herself.

I'd have to agree with this.
While I generally listen to classic rock, I'll listen to almost anything, and Lady Gaga certainly isn't as bad as people make her out to be.

Agreed. Lady Gaga is actually very talented vocally, as seen here, before she was famous:

Personally, I find her music to be very same-y, but I do enjoy songs like "Brown Eyes" and "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)".

I hate her. I hate her music. The fact that you compared her to Michael Jackson makes me want to curb stomp your face, and I'm not even a big fan of him, although all is songs are pretty good. It might be because I hate 90% of music from this time, (It seems to have started around 2008) because most of it is the same poppy shit. People have become so simple minded that they don't even listen to the lyrics. I took a poll in one of my classes, barely anyone sincerely listens and thinks about the lyrics. That makes me sick, music shouldn't be like this and the fact that it has 'devolved' to this makes me disgusted... Those are my thoughts...

I think it sucks too but I don't listen to lyrics either. Why? Artists are liberal douchebags too often so I just listen to the sound or substitute my own lyrics. For Instance I love Rage Against the Machine but I rarely listen to the lyrics because they are liberal douchebags, but they are a great band. I also don't bother knowing who is in the band as I don't know any of the people's name of my favorite bands except Kurt Cobain. I don't know who's the in Rage, or Alice in Chains, or most of the other bands I like, nor do I know most of their lyrics. Same thing goes for Trance I listen to, its mostly about drugs/sex/idiocy so I filter the music.

I listen to lyrics more now but not everyone listens to music for the same reasons and not everyone cares what people are saying. I mean its obvious but all music doesn't have lyrics, because its the instruments (or voice tones) that are awesome. I think drugs are for weak idiots but I love Alice in Chains. I hate liberal douches but Rage Against the Machine is so awesome.

Just saying. But yeh Lady Gaga is a stupid whore with mediocre music.

She's entertaining, but with the auto-tuning and the less than original musical style, she's a passing fad.

If she uses auto-tuning, it's very minimal. Refer to the video posted above.

Frankly, I like her. She's got some wonderfully catchy songs and has a sense of style like no other. Looking forward to seeing her in concert this September.

Really? I might have to look up some of her stuff, then. All of the songs I've heard that I know to attribute to her, I've found catchy and enjoyable (...except "Paparazzi;" that was catchy, but it had to grow on me before it was enjoyable).

I don't care for her. There are many other artists who I hate a lot more then her, but even then, if given the choice between AC/DC and Lady Gaga AC/DC would win every time.

Lady Gaga had a drunken spasm in one of her songs. I think it was Bad Romance, I don't really remember, all I remember was that the music went quiet just for her to have the drunken spasm, or finish her orgasm, or whatever she was doing. And the thing that disturbs me about this is the fact that I didn't notice for months, it just seemed like another bad part of a bad song.

And I'm sure she's fine for her field, but I don't like modern music, in the slightest.

I'm definitely not a fan. One of my friends started blabbing on about how she's "revolutionising the music industry". Needless to say, I vocally disagreed with him. But, due to even having such a viewpoint, he was stubborn.

Okay that was off topic, but really, like most pop artists these days, there's nothing all that musically interesting about her. The things I enjoy about music are either technical proficiency applied appropriately in a song (e.g. The Mars Volta), well-thought-out and interesting musicality, a catchy riff or raw emotion. Lady Gaga has none of these things (in my opinion). I really just want to see pop music get interesting again instead of all this similar bland stuff being churned out and eaten up by the average teenager.
