Earth. I love that show, I'm so glad THEY NEVER MADE A MOVIE OF IT.

Or that they never made Matrix sequels *nudges knowingly*[footnote]In truth I liked the Matrix trilogy, but not immensely, they will always just be 'another slightly better than average movie group' to me, and my thing was just playing on a bandwagon for shits'n'giggles[/footnote]

OT: Water, with earth/air tied for second. I mean, water can be steam and ice as well, so it can have similar effects to air and earth if you need it to, so it has a tonne of versatility, but it also has good qualities like bringing rain to drought areas, or holding back floods, or speed-swimming (and I guess you could Silver-surfer it with an ice-board/platform). And of course, if you are ever thirsty just pull some water out of the air (even if you are in the desert, there would be water deep underground, or sparsely in the air, but you could just draw it in from a larger distance to make up the difference). Also, water is stronger than air, in that it is more viscous, so if you need shelter from the sun or something you could just use the water to make a mud dome, then freeze it in place, whereas air would need to be much more violent to get the same amount of cover and it would have to be maintained. Also, water can be heated and cooled using water-bending, so the benefits of fire are redundant.

So yeah, water, for versatility and practicality.

Water. I've always held the belief that a good enough waterbender could freeze people's blood and figured that would end a lot of fights quickly.

Tough choice between Fire and Earth.
With earth you can create barriers, toss huge boulders, trap your enemies. Theres also making armor, weapons, tons of practical applications, and wouldn't it be awesome to just ball shot someone by stomping on the ground to raise the earth.

Fire though..... fires freaking awesome, burn stuff, set people on fire through direct or indirect (Spontaneous combustion). Rocket boots, heat ray, create just a barrier around you so hot nothing can get through before getting turned to ash. And of corse shooting lightning!

I'd just have to go with fire because if anyones going to mess with me, I'll set you ablaze or shock you to death with a lightning bolt.

Fire burns, fire destorys, fire doesn't need a motive. I'm more than a little bit of a pyromaniac, so i'd chose fire and cause wanton destruction for the lulz.

I'm suprised that the choices are pretty much even, and I'm even more suprised that earth is the most popular. I'm especially suprised air is so popular since it's the only that hasn't been given an extra ability (blue fire, lightning, metal bending, sandbending, healing and blood bending).

Yeah, I prefer earth more than the others. There's just so much you can do with it: you can make structures or projectiles, you can sink people into the ground, you can change the terrain to your advantage, etc. So there's the versatility of it (water is also really versatile, but it's just not my style), and then there's just how awesome just about anyone looks when using it. Also, I just love Bumi and Toph.

Second is fire because lightning is cool.

Last is air. I just don't like it's approach (too acrobatic and evasive for my liking) and I hate the idea of flying.

Earth, because if i tried hard enough, I could throw the moon at you.
Go on, outbend that.

I would point out the impracticality of that due to:
a) the amount of concentration required it would give you a stroke
b) the distance it would have to travel would pretty much make you as vulnerable as goku trying the use the spirit bomb
c) you'd kill yourself
but it's just so damn awesome know one would give a shit? WHERE'S YOUR FOUR GIANTS NOW, *****!?

I'd go with Air, simply because it's by far the most versatile of the elements. You don't need to carry anything around with you, you can be incredibly subtle, and incredibly powerful, and it can be used to do just about anything. Definitely seems the most useful out of all of them.


Though I have to admit Fire wins in terms of sheer wow factor. You can't really use it for anything except destruction, but it's still pretty awesome.

This is patently wrong, and I think was the whole point of an entire episode of Book 3 when Aang and Zuko went and trained with the Sun Warriors and met Dragons. Fire is the warmth of your heart, it cooks your meals, lights your lamps and heats your home.

It would be fair to say though that it has fewer practical applications as opposed to say Earthbending though

Firebending for sure. The Northern Shoalin Kung-Fu style its based off would be the coolest one to learn I reckon, plus I'd learn how to fight with Dao so I could light them on fire like Zuko did.
