I've been having this argument over and over with my brother.

I believe that they both do a number of things:
1) they are both the same game with slightly different mechanics each time a new one comes out.
2) they both have the same story each time they come out.

Despite this, I believe that Legend of Zelda is the better game series because I beleive that the Zelda series has better gameplay and better story. With Pokemon, I have no complaints about the gameplay I just like Zelda's better, but the story just feels like a way to pad out the game by putting team blank in your way while you try to become Pokemon champion. With Zelda, while you also do the same thing in each game (fight monsters, find stuff, save Zelda) it is to accomplish your goal of saving Zelda, not just an extra obsticale, the hero of legend thing is just a bonus because Link probably would be doing the same shit with or without a prophecy.

But my final argument for the zelda games is this: THEY END!!! pokemon games don't end, you can try to collect them all, but it is ultimatly pointless. Yahtzee has been so kind as to put my thoughts into a more eloquent form, but i have always thought this since at least the second generation on.

How about you? Do you like LoZ or Pokemon better? why?

They're both great games. Why would anyone want to really compare them?

Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask; Your generalization is inaccurate.

You're comparing apples and oranges, here. I'm not sure many people at all have ever drawn a connection that Pokemon and Zelda were anything like one another.

Im gonna say Pokemon. For the simple reason that its one of the only turn based games that i like. Where as there are many many many adventure games i like more than Zelda.

But yeh they're not really comparable, it comes down to personal taste.

The storys of Zelda are nothing like each other compared to Pokémon.

Either way they're both wildly different games that aren't worth comparing.

What a strange set of series to compare.

I choose Poke'mon. If you play a Legend of Zelda game through once (which takes 20-50 hours), you have the full experience of the game. If you play through a Poke'mon game once (which can take as long as you want, since it does not really end), you can play through it again using a different set of party members and have a very different experience. In short, Poke'mon has more replay value.

Thats kind of the point. if zelda is an apple and pokemon is an orange then im asking do you preffer apples or oranges. im not saying they are alike in any way beyond the basic skeletal structure that most games/movies/books/etc. are alike.

OoT is probably my favorite game ever, so that. Although Pokemon Red was my first, so it's definitely a close one.

Usually when comparing anything to Zelda, I pull the three different games made over and over again card. I can't really do that here. So I guess I'll just say that I enjoy Pokemon a lot more than I do Zelda and leave it at that.

Zelda is about personal accomplishment, Pokemon is about completing goals with the help of others and creating unity where otherwise there is chaos. In Zelda you play one character, in Pokemon you play hundreds and fight not only the computer itself but your friends and family.

You can't compare them because they perform in wildly different ways. The day you beat Ganon using an octorok and stab Giovanni in the face with a magic sword then the two can be compared.

It might seem like the Pokemon games don't end because they in fact don't. Each year in Japan and the US there are Pokemon VideoGame Championships where one among thousands actually is crowned the pokemon master. Pokemon is about the possibility that there are more people than just you, and even at points in a normal game where the hero should be the only one fighting, the hero of pokemon(which is largely promoted as an avatar of yourself) is accompanied by an in-game character. Prof Oak from R/B/Y, Lance from G/S, Steven from R/S etc. Either literally as a companion, or in spirit as a sort of cheerleader. Even when the hero is alone he is swarmed by his pokemon allies. It's about group suffering and unity.

In Zelda the hero receives little or no direct help and is encouraged to solve the problems of the land independently. The fairies who accompany you rarely volunteer non-essential plot information and it's only from Windwaker and up that another character even assists you. In Ocarina of Time Princess Ruto must be carried about and thrown in order to get some kind of results! It's about personal struggle and self reliance.

It's not that either game is inferior, it's simply that the two games provide VASTLY different experiences and you like one over the other.

I like pokemon the best, because you can't have a Zelda battle on the bus with a girl you've never met that time in Calgary when she noticed your Pokewalker on your belt, or trade your friend his sword for your sword so you both get the evolved form.

But a world without Zelda is a sad world indeed no matter how many swears Yahtzee throws around.

I prefer oranges over apples, but I prefer Zelda over Pokemon. :p
