Hide my guns, if I had any and they were perfectly legal up until the government passes the law. The Swedish police is fairly incompetent, however. Put a blanket over them or stash them in a forest at an inconvenient distance from the nearest roadside drive-through and it's like they never existed, I imagine.

Unless they offer a little more than full refund for the cost. It's less of "No, not mai freedom-tools! D:" and more "Hey, those were expensive!" from my part. But then again, I can't thing of any reason I'd buy firearms for anyway, other than maybe larp Left 4 Dead in the forest or somesuch.

Captcha: "plenty of time". A'ight.

Watch Obama get kick out of office, and the Democrat party burn for their transgression. Would be the funniest thing too.
Yeah, I mean, what could possibly go wrong if only one big party remains in the internal politics, not that that's ever backfired on anyone...

No guns to turn in over here. And I highly doubt anyone would start a friggin revolution if the government did take such measures. I mean, I love skateboarding. But if the government decided to ban those pieces of wood because they thought skateboards turned people into hooligans who beat up grandparents, I'm not all of a sudden going to turn Che on everybody's ass just to keep my skateboard. Heck, if it led to less grandparents getting the crap beat out of them then I'd feel like I did the right thing.

It's the principle of the thing not specifics to your circumstance.

Were this to happen, I'm guessing it would cause another civil war, as pathetic as that sounds.
Its not really THAT pathetic. That would be a massive breach of the constitution

<..>

Even if its only the poorly written controversial part. Suffice to say if the gubment's willing to breach the constitution and their first act is to take guns away... Well let me adjust my tinfoil cap, but it doesn't look good.

OT: I don't own any guns, so realistically nothing would change, but I would be pissed on principle.

If someone said they were willing to actually shoot a cop to keep their guns, I would advise to be careful of them. It would certainly show alot of their character and what type of person they are.

They arrest you for pointing a gun at an officer. Or you go to jail for murder or attempted murder. Simple as that.

Why isn't there are a lobby option? Or contest via legal channels? Why are the options only: completely obeying the law, breaking the law or going batshit?

I would continue living my gun-free life.

This actually already happened here in Australia. We had one of those massacres go down in a place called Port Arthur, not far from where I live. About 35 people dead if memory serves. Within a couple of week they passed a law banning private ownership of automatic and semi-automatic weapons and tightened controls. There were large scale buy-back schemes and voluntary hand-ins.
I'd imagine you Australians would want to keep your guns considering how everything in Australia wants to kill you (at least according to Cracked).

Well being an American I would probably do what every other American with a backbone would do and say pry it from my cold dead hand.

i live in Canada, and i've personally have never seen a gun in my life. well, actually i saw a cop with one when there some stupid person broke into our school with a crowbar, no one was hurt but the cop had those freakin big scary guns. when i saw it, i was terrified of the GUN not the situation nor the cop. those things are scary looking as hell.

anyways.

if i Did have a gun and if i had little kids crawling around, just the thought of them touching it, i'd give it away instently. all the trouble the damn things cause, its not worth it.

than again, guns are designed to kill humans. why would you want that in you're house?

Americans are too soft to go to war over a hobby, which is really all gun culture really amounts to these days. There'd be a handful of extremist holdouts in the deep south and maybe Michigan who'd take a few pot shots at the police, and maybe even successfully kill a two or three of them, but tough talk of rebellion would be quashed and within a few days life would return to normal.

Personally, I'd wait for the Supreme Court to overturn whatever decision allowed this to happen and reclaim my weapons or use the compensatory check to replenish my arsenal. Failing that, it's not like they're tracked accurately enough that I couldn't just hide one until the heat was off.

The most likely result from this a visit from your friendly neighborhood SWAT team.

Yeah, right, a breach of this part of the constitution?
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the Right of the people to Keep and Bear Arms shall not be infringed"
Do Americans know what a militia is? I read this and thought of the Swiss system of gun laws built around every 20 - 30 year old (Male?) being part of a trained militia with the option to keep semi-automatic versions of their issued rifle afterwards because they had proper training and respect for the firearm BEFORE being allowed to own it.

Also, can somebody finally answer what people hunt with an M16? Even bears go down to a bolt action if you have a half decent aim, and why do people need any more than bolt action rifles?.

But back onto the poll. Yeah, I'd give up my gun if that happened. As far as I'm aware no country that has either gun control or a proper gun culture has ever suffered the kind of massacre America sees every other month so I would be willing to disarm myself, the majority of criminals, and the Psychos at the same time.

Im sorry, but it is literally impossible for me to imagine the government passing a law to solve America's financial crisis, than alone passing a law that bans the ownership of firearms.

Its not even possible to come up with a honest answer for a hypothetical question. The literal idea of it is so mind boggling that... I really cant imagine it ever happening...

But most likely, I would demand compensation for my firearms... actually I just own one shotgun... and as it was a $500 piece, would use the proceeds to buy some new games...

It's okay, the rest of us would keep you safe.

Now if you'll just hop into this protective cage while we take you to our auction ... sorry, that was a mistype, I meant safe house, yes, safe house. We will find someone who will "look after" you.

On Topic....

We did have that law passed. In the UK it is illegal to own firearms.
Well, I'm also in the UK, and there are currently two licensed double barrel shotguns in my house. Those have shotgun licenses, and then my uncle has a semi-automatic shotgun that chambers seven or eight shells that has a firearms license.

So, that seems pretty legalized, to me. Then again, we are in a rural area. Even so, I'd hardly say it's illegal to own firearms. Strict, maybe, but legal.

Not going to entertain this question because it feeds the paranoia that certain gun lovers have. You know the crazies that are afraid o imaginary boogey men in the government. The ones that believe the US government wants all of the guns.

Your scenario represents the unlikely outcome, one that is not going to happen. The feds do not want to take all guns away. They want to enact measures that 90 percent of NRA members happen to agree with, simply a series of common sense measures to address the gun problem in the United States.

Limit the sale of assault weapons, as defined by the 1994 Assault Weapons band. Limit the ability to buy and manufacturer high capacity clips for firearms. Force the Gun Show loophole to be closed. Make it tougher for people to get firearms. Force the federal database of banned gun buyers to be a 50 state thing. Make it harder for those prone to gun violence to purchase firearms legally You know things that sane and rational people would agree with.

No, this is not a "If at first you don't succeed, fuck it" scenario. Yes, it will not stop all firearms death, nothing will. What it can do is lessen number of ruined lives after each incident.

The fact that people entertain asinine scenarios like this one are part of the problem.

I don't own guns, I don't care to own a gun, and I don't need a gun.

What better way to show that I'm a responsible individual than by shooting people?

'Oh, you want my gun?'

*Bang!*

By the way, I don't own a gun. Yeah, that's right. I killed that guy with my mind.
Sounds reasonable.
