So, which company do you think will make the greatest contribution to the future of technology?

My personal opinion is that Intel will make the hardware of the future while Google will make the software. Microsoft will (hopefully) be the mediator, through which we move into a different world, away from x86 processors.

I'm no expert on this, by far, I was just discussing it with a few friends and was hoping to get the feedback from you, a community I've found to be insightful, intelligent and funny at the same time.

ARM will make the processors, Google will use the processors in the most intelligent way. But overall I think crowdsourcing & open source works are going to make the greatest contribution to technology in our general life. Already most of the computers we use run an Operating System developed largely by volunteers - once that transfers to 3D printing, it'll be really awesome.

You really should change "technology" to computing. I think the greatest contribution to technology will be whoever invents the fusion reactor, and it certainly won't be one of the above.
Anyway, on the topic of computing, if you're talking about the greatest contribution to the future of technology, then It's going to be something big. Microsoft slowly moving away from x86 is not a huge change. I think whoever can think up a new way of computing without transistors will be the biggest contribution, due to the quantum effects that manufacturers are now seeing as they try to make them smaller and smaller. Perhaps quantum computers will finally become practical and we can all share the same computer and have a trillion units of computing power left over.
Who knows.

I think whoever creates 'hard light' technology will pretty much win science. Personally I wouldn't trust AMD to create anything worthwhile so they're out. My guess is on the competent established hardware guys, Intel or IBM.
