So a lot of the criticism against fallout 3 was its level cap being annoyingly low. I however enjoyed it feeling it added to the RPGness of the game.

Where do you stand on level caps? Give me your two cents.

I just hate any level caps. It's not about what I unlock, it's about emailing your friends with a opener such as :- "My level on WOW is 70 now. That's 7 higher than yours! Keep at it, weaker man."

Well to be honest, while Fallout 3's level cap does take away somewhat from the sense of progression once you reach it, were it any higher the game would pretty much play itself.
That said Broken steel will raise it to thirty, I'm looking forward to that.

I think that "role play" means you should have/try to specialise so I'm all for caps - it makes the game more fun and challenging.

Either as high as possible or as low as possible, either is fine... Assuming that there's more to do with your character after you've capped it out.

Depends on the game.

A game like Fallout 3 where the game itself gets harder as you level, I don't see the point of a level cap. Not having a cap would still give someone who's done everything in the game a purpose to keep playing.

A game like WoW though needs a cap to give the end game content at the time purpose. The one thing I hated when BC came out was how it raised the level cap and made everything pre-BC irrelevant.

True, but Fallout 3's was just a tad low. The level they're raising it to with Broken Steel, 30, seems much better.

There has been a mod for a level 30 or level 40 unlock since the first week or so.

Anyway, I like low caps. Neverwinter Nights, Guild Wars, Dungeons and Dragons Online (or normal DnD without Epics, even though I love them) and few others.

Because high levels always remind me of how I don't like jRPGs.

For single player RPGs I think you should be able to max everything out. For MMOs there needs to be a cap, depending on the style of game is where you cap it.

I know, but I got it for a 360, so no mods for me :(

a good cap for me is around 60-80 like WoW. i find that resonable. LOTRO´s cap is too low comparing to how gigantic Middle-Earth is.

I agree with some level caps, but I think Fallout's was just too low. If you did enough side quests, you could easily be level 20 before you had power armour (maybe that's a slight exageration, but I was level 18 when I unlocked it...)

I like the Fallout 3 level cap. It's low enough so that you can have several characetrs specialized in certain areas.

However I would like it if even after you reach the level cap you still level up. You just don't get any points when you level up after you reach he level cap. That way I can see how much experience my character has gained over time.

I agree that 30 is a good number to stop at and also that 20 is normally too low, but with F3 I didn't feel that any more levels were needed - though it wouldn't have hurt to up it a little.

Only way to remove level caps is to remove infinitely respawning enemies, so Fallout 3 wouldn't have worked because in theory you could have cleared the wastes of all hostiles.

I like to spread out and make my characters as flexible as possible. The traditional lvl cap of 99 is okay with me, or a stat cap of 255.
