My Global Studies teacher showed us The Times They Are A Changin' for some reason or another and when I saw it in Watchmen with the group of people (who are also all in my history class) we were all blown away. We told him about it the following Monday.

I think Lay Lady Lay is one of his best.

Isn't Knockin on Heaven's Door the most covered song ever?

It also happens to be my favorite.
No its actually Yesterday from The Beatles.
Dang, I never heard any covers of that. Besides GNR, who did both. And I liked both. That's right. I liked their KOHD cover. WHAT?!
GNR didnt cover Yesterday from The Beatles. They do have a song called Yesterday but its not the same as of The Beatles.

GNR Yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKBgCwkZTBQ

The Beatles Yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsLj8blqSgQ

They did cover Paul Mccartney Live and Let Die.
Oh, completely different then. Thanks. Never been much of a Beatles fan. Not a hater either. They changed the world, clearly.

From the list Tangled Up In Blue as Blood on the Tracks is my favourite Dylan album.
Seems I skipped past your comment.

How could you forget 'Like a Rolling Stone'? I'm pretty sure it's #1 on Rolling Stone's greatest rock songs of all time.
Yes, but Rolling Stone isn't the authority on all things music. Besides, check the first post.

Not a problem. :p

So you know Yesterday from The Beatles as been covered by 3700 artists worldwide or something like that.

The reason is on the OP.

"If you noticed Like A Rolling Stone and Hurricane is not on the list it's because those are his best 2 easily."
Now I feel stupid >,<

Kind of like when he was in Stockholm a while back and I assumed it was sold out so I didn't bother getting any tickets -.-

I always liked Hurricane because it is such an epic masterpiece of lyrical storytelling. Whether it is completely true or not, it is an incredible song.

Lyrically, his strongest might be "Desolation Row."

On the other hand, trying to name Dylan's best song is stupid, because it's so easy to make a case for dozens of his songs. How about "Like a Rolling Stone?" Hell, why not "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" or "Tangled Up in Blue?"

To try to name the best song from an artist who has released so many great songs is an exercise in futility - I can't do it, and I don't think anyone else can, either.

My top favourite is "The Times They are A-Changin'", closely followed by All Along the Watchtower, The Ballad of a Thin Man, Mr Tambourine Man, etc.

I got into Bob Dylan due to the sublime intro from Watchmen. And now I'm a big fan of his works.

I'm listening to Desolation Row as I read this thread.

Don't have a favourite song, but for me the best include Ballad of a Thin Man, Desolation Row, Positively 4th Street and Highway 61 Revisited.

If pressed I think I might go with Ballad of a Thin Man, but anyway, his songs are so versatile that it's pretty imposible to point out a single song as the best.

I grew up listening to Dylan. My mother was a semi-hippie back in the day, so I grew up listening to what she listened to: Dylan, the Stones, Eric Clapton, the Doors, etc. Dylan's hands down my favorite singer/songwriter of all time, though. My top ten is:

1) Knockin' On Heaven's Door
2) Subterranean Homesick Blues
3) The Times They Are A-Changin'
4) Simple Twist of Fate
5) Lay, Lady, Lay
6) Tangled Up In Blue
7) Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum
8) Like a Rollin' Stone
9) Hurricane
10) Positively 4th Street

EDIT: forgot to mention Positively 4th Street. I could do a whole top 20, but I'll refrain.

From the ones you have listed I would have to say Subterranean Homesick Blues.

I cannot list everyones favourites, it's impossible with only 8 spots max when making a poll. I chucked in (Other - Specify) for that reason.

Yeah, Bob Dylan. Can't really decide on the best song. I'm still trying to get most of the discography.
If your going to try and decide by going through his entire discography, your going to be listening to Bob for years!

I also reckon Desolation makes a great 3rd best and I wanted to mention some others but I couldn't fit them in there like -

It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
Lay Lady Lay
Ballad Of A This Man
Senor (Tales Of Yankee Power)
Just Like A Women
Forever Young

Feel free to do a top 50, really appreciate lists even though it's nearly impossible to be accurate. I love how your the first to make a list and tell us how you came across Bob.

Can't say I've heard much of his songs but I would have to say "All Along the Watchtower".
