Link speaking only works in fanfictions, where you have imagination to work with. And the last time you could hear Link speak was in a really awful cartoon.

Link usually has no motivation FOR saving the day to begin with other than destiny ala sword from the stone.
I'm just going to address this bit.
In most games Link does have some motivation for saving the day. Admiteddly, not in the first one, but in most others.
In Link's Awakening his motivation is fairly obvious, he wants to go home. In the Oracles games the Triforce very kindly kicked him into some strange land, so there was probably a bit of wanting to get home in there as well as saving the pretty girl who dances/sings nicely. In Minish Cap Link is a personal frind of Zelda, as in Phantom Hourglass. In Wind Waker he goes to save his sister. In Majora's Mask he has to hold up his side of the bargain with the happy mask salesman. So, in a lot of Zelda games Link has at least some simple motivation to go kill Ganon or whoever it might be.
As far as adding in a voice goes, I say no. It won't achieve anything constructive and chances are it'll be annoying. Anyway, he has his grunts and screams.

Maybe link should get a kind of "badass attitude" makeover, with his green felt hat turned sideways on his head and spouting rad phrases like "I'm Link, you stink" to his enemies ad calling the Princess his "biitch". Or not.
Or he could be "Link: The Warrior Within"

That ran for a 13 episodes nearly 20 years ago. Probably not the best yardstick to use when judging what any potential dialogue for Link might be like.

I think that Link should not have deeper backstory simply because he does not need deep back story. The Legend of Zelda isnt a game that you play for intense backstory. For the most part its targeted at a kids that dont give a hoot about the "backstory" or motivation. They just want to play a fun puzzle solving game with minor combat aspects. If they had to skip through even more boring dialouge then the game would get boring for its targeted audience fast, so Link doesnt need more charactor.

I bought and have played and am nearly finished playing Twilight Princess. It's an awesome game, I love going between the two worlds, and seeing what it is behind all the character but...Link has no behind, no past, no secret and most of all, no motivation. Okay so he wants to help the blonde girl, but he does that half-way through the game and then what? He just does it! Maybe giving him a little depth wouldn't hurt. I haven't been playing the games for a very long time, but Zelda just does the same thing over and over again. Okay so he's in a boat this time, or he's got a funny whistle, you know, it's just that one little thing that's changed and otherwise is just running around, collecting gems, and kicking the bad guys butt. And then Zelda gets herself in trouble again and Link starts all over again. Maybe if gamers asked for a little more from Zelda, he'd actually do something other than run around in dungeons and chase after a princess who never commits.

"Well excuuuuuuuse me, Princess!" Would love to hear him say that, just once in a game. Maybe as a 'perfect ending' or something

Like Chrono, silence works for him. Navi should try it...
No, NO NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I refuse to let that go un-shotdown. No, that cartoon was mindnumbingly terrible, and I saw it when I was 6. No. Never again...Never again.....

I like the silent Link. The silence allows me to IMAGINE what his response might be...or rather I imagine how I'd respond to the situation and pretend it's his response...."WTF? I have to save her AGAIN?!? *sigh* Alright I'm off....."

That joke would work better if it wasn't a different Link and Zelda in almost every game. Yes, I'm a party-pooper

I've always considered it a reincarnation thing so to me they were the same. Same souls different times.....heck, they even LOOK the same in every game.

A bit more of a backstory is nice. But keep him silent. The rest of the characters should definatly have VAs but Link should be silent. Halflife did it well with believable conversations. Or we could just give some excuse as to why Link won't talk that fits in with the backstory....such as he had his neck slashed and it damaged his voice box. So now he has a scar across his neck and he now has some grudge against the one who almost killed him...which of course will be Ganondorf again.

I think that Link should remain silent. There would be little gain from hearing him speak. He'd probably just spout off random nonsense quotes, and would get annoying really fast. Look at what happened with Navi; give her a few lines, and she can drive you insane!

Definately "Or not". Thank you for your two cents...now please be quiet while the big kids talk.
Sorry mate, I'll take my tongue out of my cheek because you obviously don't get sarcasm.

Several years back, around the time of Super Mario World and Link to the Past, Nintendo Power ran two comic series which roughly followed the plotlines of each game. Mario's was pretty much terrible all the way through, but Zelda had its moments, and Link did have a personality there.

I think that if the game had basically been a playable version of the comic, I still would've played it. It might not've been as good as Link to the Past (which, really, is one of the best Zeldas ever), but it would be a different direction to try once, maybe.
