With the advent of Internet gaming, people have the ability to play against people all over the world. It seems that in this development, however, that local multiplayer has been ignored. It sucks when I don't have Internet access and I just want to play a match of the Conduit, but there's no local support. Which do you prefer, online or local multiplayer?

I prefer local because the input lag is greatly reduced, my game doesn't depend on someone else's connection, and I can look my opponent straight in the face and make funny faces at them when I win.

I like both. Online for people around the world, local for friends sitting in the same room as me.

Local, because annoying pricks aren't allowed in my house.

Well, Local only if you mean LAN on PC. Otherwise is Online for consoles.

I almost never have any of my actual friends over these days, we're all far too busy. So, it's better for me to jump online, play a couple matches there and then go do what I need to do elsewhere.

That, and I'm too lazy to organize anything. o-o

Both.

I've been shocked by the way that developers have practically abandoned the concept of split-screen multiplayer, even in series where it was present in earlier games.

Resistance 2 completely abandoned both co-op and competitive split-screen, the latter being possible in proper online games though, even though they had both been well incorporated in the previous game. The developers were so focussed on making changes to their product that sensible features were simply left on the cutting-room floor.

Similarly, why didn't Killzone 2 have any kind of spit-screen?
I can only guess, again, that it was a result of their focus on a class-based multiplayer game that had a reasonably high player-count. Even racing games like Motorstorm and Burnout Paradise are entirely single-player experiences unless you go online.

I just don't get it.

Online is needed, I can't live at LAN parties, how ever much I would love to.

But if it was practical, I'd choose LAN 90% of the time, everytime.

Online by far, but Lan works if everyone has their own tv.(in that case just play online) Nothing like trolling random people in COD, o the joys.

Local. It's good to have real people over and no frustration over laggy games as gears of war taught me.
But it seems like companies are focusing on online multi-player so people will by more consoles, I miss the days when me and friends played San Francisco Rush and Goldeneye laughing at each other at how we suck.
