What do you like better? Playing with your friends in the same room? Or playing with your friends online?

They have both weaknesses and plus

-Local Plus = Lots of fun, no lag, chill out, it's always fun to scream at them when they f**k up something

-Local Minus = Can look at each others screen, small screens.

Online Plus = If you have a headset it's really fun, can't cheat.

Online Minus = Lag, have to have the same game, needs headset for get the most of it.

I'd choose local, seems more fun to play together in the same room. Your opinion?

Local. Pretty much what PersianLlama said; I'd rather play with intelligent friends I know and respect than some nine year old shouting racial slurs into my ear.

Pretty much sums it up.

Also, in the case of games like Hellgate: London (and eventually Diablo 3)... I don't want to rely on your terrible service to play with my friends. LAN. Now. Do what was done with NWN2. Force people to be online in order to play LAN, resulting in real CD keys being used. I can't express how annoying it is to have to rely on a service in order to play with my friends, especially when I don't have to rely on the service to play by myself.

Online. It's much easier to arrange to meet with a group of friends online than it is to get everyone to drag their asses to one place, especially when you all have jobs and responsibilities.

i prefer local. i like hanging out with friends, and i like xbox and they are even better together. problem is hard getting enough people to have a fun game, and one person usual dominates. and then my friends are cool but douche bags when it comes to teams. we are fairly well balanced but the best 2 will only play if they are on each other teams. and if they arnt they throw an all out hissyfit/tantrum/girliest word for a fight you can think of.

online is fun cause 16v16 will almost never happen localy and can happen anytime and is generaly balanced. and i dont have a problem with online douche bags unlike every other person on this forum who plays XBL.

I like local, but when you have friends all over canada, you have no option but to rely on shoddy online playing. I really hate having to confer with friends over which games to buy so that you can have the online play together, rather than buying the one game and hamming it up in a living room with food and drinks and general good times

It depends on the game, but I generally prefer to play Online - not that I play multiplayer much anyway.

This is mostly because my friends get really annoyed if I beat them, and often don't want to play the same games as me. There's also the issue of not having that many gaming friends...

There's a more social aspect to local gaming which I enjoy a lot. When you're using a headset it feels like there's a bit of a wall between you. Maybe that's just me though.

I don't know. It's been a while since I've done local. Do you mean to include LAN games or just screen games?

FOr me, it's gotta be online. Sure, there's kids who shouldn't be playing it, people who use racial slurs (had this one guy pretending to be black today) because they think no ones watching, and dicks who would rather run off than help you (and the team in general). But if you go around, you meet lots of coherent, sober people who can pull things off and are generally good. I find myself on Axls TF2 server, and the regulars are just fine.

I'd have to go with local. In quick online games, the lag can decide an entire afternoon if your connection is acting up. I also like to have the person siting next to me so they don't say anything racial or insulting. Plus my friends don't usually have the same console and game as me, so it's easier to just get them to come over or for me to go over to their house. However this is only convenient because we're all in school and live with our parents with no jobs yet, and we're usually to broke(hence the no jobs yet thing) to have a social gathering at the local mall or anything like that.

Local, all the way. There's really nothing quite like getting three of your good friends over for a night of Mario Kart: Double Dash. The races are always peppered with impromptu shouting matches over someone's shoddy driving skills, or inability to aim green turtle shells... Classic, and good fun. You just can't get that online.

Offline, gives legitimate reasons to shout aloud.
And you usually know the people you're playing then.
