So I was watching Irobot cause I didn't have much else to do and I was thinking how Vicky was a machine designed for absolute cold hard logic and it was based around the three laws. The doctor who built sunny designed him for Superior morality what is viewed right and wrong. Sunny did what he thought was right and what he was taught what was right. Vicky did what would be the logically answer. So escapist what would you rather have a world of morality where we do what we think is right or a world where we go by whats more safe and efficient?

Ideally they should both be the same. My personal moral code, even as influenced by my Christian upbringing, is driven by my logic. I'm sure i'll get flamed by someone for saying that, but i really don't think the two have to be mutually exclusive. That being said, however, i suppose i'd have to pick logic, as i feel that a strictly logical course would ultimately prove to be highly moral.

Logic, in my opinion morals are bad, it's a long explanation as to why and pretty much it goes against nature and morals can be wrong or right as seen through different eyes so I'm not going to babble on for ages about why.

The golden rule is inherently logical, and is the basis of most moral behaviour.

Logic, simply because logic can lead *to* morality given sufficient thought, while the inverse is not necessarily true.

Really, morals are just a cultural set of pro-social memes anyway, and it's pretty easy to see how pro-social behavior benefits the individual who is themselves a member of said society.

Ain't nothin' mystical about it.

Well, from what I think in regards to morality, it is logic. You think something is morally right if it promotes or demotes things you do or do not value respectively. So really, morality is the logical perspective on values (did that make sense, I'm not very good at making sense on the internet. I'm not bad at it, but I'm not good).

So logic and morality are not mutually exclusive terms, morality is just logic filtered through your values. (Think about it, it isn't logical to give up your life to save the lives of a hundred other people (let's assume they are all nice, productive people who can beenfit humanity, just to stop the 'scenario specifics' debates), and it isn't logical, because your life and their lives have no intrinsic value. But, if you value whatever it is that their lives can bring to humanity more than you value your own life, then the logical(/moral) choice is to sacrifice yourself for them)

Morality is simply logic with a focus on improving your conditions.
One is derived from the other, and so I cannot choose between the two.

logic all the way

morality can cause a LOT of problems, as what is "right" and what is "wrong" can be skewed and tainted by the individual person. Logic is generally universal, and much less likely to be corrupted. (although logic has a habit of being cruel at times)

An Idealist, eh? Not many of you out there.

OT: None of those. A world based on logic would be bland and tasteless (assuming logic stays the same, which it doesn't) and a world based on morality would be torrid and chaotic.

I'd rather have a world that's fueled by Power.

Why can't we have both? I always try to do the logical thing then way it up against what my moral code says about it. If I feel wrong about doing something, I'm generally not going to do it because logic says I should.

That is an interesting point, but what about situations like killing one to save a thousand? Logic would dictate that the thousand lives at stake are more important than the one, but morality would say that the killing of an innocent is inherently wrong no matter what the circumstances.

I actually have no concept of societal rules and morality. I use logic to dictate my morality.

I would say, rather than have Logic vs. Morality, you should have Logic vs. Compassion. Logic, as others have said, is the basis of morality.
And I vote Logic!! :)

"morality where we do what we think is right or a world where we go by whats more safe and efficient?"

What if what we consider to be right is more safe and efficient?

Logic and morality are not mutually exclusive. Someone who acts ONLY logically and not morally is a person without values. I'm trying to imagine such a person, but I'm having difficulty.
