I worked at Krogers (a grocery store) for two years and nothing horrible like that comes to mind. I'm not saying everyone was a saint, but I don't think anyone actually insulted me. Closest thing to someone being an asshole was this chick who tried to short-change me. Sucks to be you, OP.

Thomas the Bakers by any chance? I'm lucky I don't get too many ***** customers. Most are elderly and are polite.
Nahh, Greggs. A lot of the old people are cute, but I think because ours is a nationwide shop people tend to trust us, rather than go to a local bakery.

I had to hold a sign for an art show and walk up and down the most crowded street in my town, I had to yell shit like Art show at the ______ from 11:00 to 6:00 and people would honk at me and shit (I was wearing an incredibly gay French hat) And some people would tell me not to bug them even though all I was doing was walking by advertising. 15$ an hour though, pretty solid gig :>

Greggs!? Greggs!? ARGARGARGLEBLAGH!

Get out my forum.

Kidding, although faking company rivalry is always fun, especially when people claim the food at Greggs/cornish pasty shop etc is much better quality for similar prices. If they knew this, why shop with us?

I use to work at a cafe called Williams next to a Starbucks ( obviously not there now it got shut down! which made my life)
so any cheap bastard who did not want to pay Starbucks prices but wanted to order them the way they do. two weeks into that job, I had never gone to a starbucks and had no clue what the system was to order. I was told by some lady in her 50s that she wanted venti something I asked her why she was saying twenty to me in Italian. and she yelled at me through the speaker "venti is a cup size not a number you idiot!" that was when the supervisor who was on staff had heard that and said " yeah please drive up to the window" and my supervisor tore her a new one at the window. it was amazing. I had in the mean time taken people who came into the cafe and they were asking what was going on in the drive thru. and even they were saying " what an idiot!" so that guy that I told the situation to made my day!

Many customers have the idea that they are always right even when they are wrong but they do now want to admit that. also anything that makes more of a hassle even though it is the way you have been doing it since training, they will find the first punching bag to hurl insults at. aka you!

The only reason I've never dealt with asshole customers is I have yet to find a job. Though I have been in the presence of crazy people while walking through the store. Take my advice, never, and I mean NEVER go to Wal-Mart after dark, the crazies come out in fucking droves.

True not everyone is an ass and most people are a pleasure to deal with, but it only takes one person to completely cock up your day.
I've worked in game shops for about a year now and if there's one thing I've learned, it's not to let one random dick ruin your day.

I got kicked off at really badly the other week, honestly the worst I'd ever had. He was trying to return a memory card under our 12 day exchange policy and he couldn't understand why I wouldn't give him a refund. Aside from the fact that he was outside the 12 day period, he also wanted the money back even though I'd explained it was an exchange at best. He'd got himself completely worked up, was even threatening to call trading standards. Ended up having to call my manager on his day off to ask his advice! After he'd got his own way and he'd left, one of my colleagues gave me a hug, we had a coffee and after that, I got on with my day.

Yes there are total asses out there who will try to bully you to get their own way, and yes, we do get a lot of regulars in our shop, but the majority of people, you will never see again, so I've learned not to let it get to me and to just move on when I get a customer like that. It really helps me a lot ^_^
Oh man if he had tried that with me he'd get the exact same or worse right back at him. Not trying to sound tough or anything but I cannot stand assholes like that, if he's willing to do that to you. He'll do the exact same thing to every person he feels justified in treating like shit.

One person I had in work actually made me freak out before, something was priced wrong... always a disaster <.< She was gutting for a fight and kept demmanding that I leave the counter and come down and 'LOOK AT THE PRICE' the only thing was as I was junior staff I wasnt allowed to give her a price reduction on the product and no matter how hard I looked at the shelf that wasn't going to change. Her husband was the exact same he was clearly willing to get into a fight to get the price reduction, I was so angry at this point I didnt point I didnt really care.

She was having none of it name, shop number etc was taken and I was reported to regional management the next day for 'aggressive attitude'. I was taken into the office and despite being 'aggressive attitude' with a customer I didnt get into any trouble as we were understaffed and junior staff arent supposed to be on the tills (as we cannot perform all the functions that sales staff can, or sell medication as its a pharmacy) and while my boss was talking to me I told her that I was never working behind the pharmacy counter again unless I was trained properly. As its not fair on me or the customer that I have to say 'I'm sorry I cant do that, wait here and somebody else can take that for you'.

Sure enough I was never asked to work behind the counter and now have a job where I dont have to deal with the greater public so I'm all the better for I think. I'm not one of these 'I hate people' people. But being at the bottom of the ladder in retail is horrific. Summer job while I was young I could handle, as a full time job though.... I doubt it :|

I've been cooking in commercial kitchens for the last 15yrs.

Its understandable to me that alot of my fellow hospitality workers refer to customers as 'cuntstermers'.
Some people are just plain dumb arse, ignorant and rude with a sense of entitlement that far outweighs what their paying for.

Remember people.Hospitality workers aren't your slaves. They will usually go out of their way to take care of you if you show some respect and understanding.
If you dont want your soup spat in or the Chef to accidentaly drop your steak on the floor before serving to you because your being an unreasonable arsehole then take this nugget of wisdom from someone in the industry.

Hm.. Stories to share. Oh so many. There are a lot of jobs that you just do your job, and you get paid to do it.

But ever think about those that work off your taxes?

I work in a library- Not saying which. But here comes a story.

So I am helping library patrons check out their books to go home. One lady in line steps up to me and says "What do I need to get a library card?"

Now before I go further- for convenience and efficiency, we have a big ole sign that states most of the rules and also what you need to get a library card. In front of the line you are supposed to wait for in order to get service. And you know what? Also on that sign itself, we keep the application to get a card in the same place.

Yeah... she missed it. So do a of of others.

When I tell her what she needs, she presents her cell phone and shows me her email. "Is this good?" She asks. I never mentioned she could, and also the sign specifically says "emails are not allowed." Se gets angry and starts saying various things, such as Obama says yes we can, it should be allowed, etc.

I tell her this, verbatim "I am a register monkey. I sit here, punch keys, giving out rules made by others. I do not even have a password to waive fees. Why then, are you giving me your opinions when all is said and done- Nothing will change?"

She asked to speak to my supervisor of course. She was escorted out of the building later by guards.

I really do wish people realize that getting mad at a register monkey will not let them have their way. People in some office make the rules and you now what? The rules made by the city- that get paid by your taxes- in order to ensure all are treated fair.

depends: only if the person working there is an asshole first, because in that case, they don't deserve better

the worker should never be an asshole, no matter what.

please stop whining about unfriendly customers.
yes, some people are assholes and believe the world only revolves around them (some of them even are not on the paying but the paid side of the business, can you imagine that??), and if stuff isn't going their way, they'll blame you for it - but not because it's YOU who has the one and only intention of effing around with 'em, no sir, but because THEY are being the asshole, and chose you as their victim.
so just be professional, and don't take it personal, because it ain't about you, but merely your position (wrong time, wrong place), and THEM being a-holes.

I worked in retail for about 6 years, if a customer had a problem and were nice about it I would go out of my way to help them, even if they were a little angry, that's just to be expected, trying to get help can be frustrating sometimes.
If however they acted like an asshole then I would pretend to be really really incompetent dithering around all smiles and apologies wasting as much of their time as I can without helping them one bit intll they are forced to give give up and storm away red in the face and boiling with impotent rage.
I had a few try to get violent with me but I'm a well trained fighter and I like a good scrap most of the people who have threatened me have backed of pretty quick after realising I'm not the least bit intimated by them.
