Seconded, the poll needs fixing.xtreme_phoenix said:buddy, you can't ask an either/or question and then provide yes and no as the only answers.
First off, you can't just create an exact duplicate of someone's DNA, weld it together, and get a functioning human being. Within a few generations, these retarded robo-babies would be riddled with debilitating birth defects for the same reason that you can't have sex with your cousin.iblis666 said:i think you misunderstood im referring to the rise of the companion bot since more than likely they would after a few years outnumber the human population not her offspring which would most likely be human unless instead of a human reproductive system she had a small cloning pod that would recombined the semen into usable dna, clone a child, and then give it cybernetic implants even a partial cybernetic brain.m_jim said:Wat? This is the craziest thing I have read all day. You don't understand how genetics works, do you?
Setting that aside, robots do not have a personality. They can have randomized reactions that are generated by an AI, but that is the voice of the programmer who designed the robot, not the robot itself.
As for robots not having personalities in 100 years they might and technically speaking we are really just biological machines who is to say that machines in the future might and if this is a soul argument how do you know you have one and who is to say that if a machine is advanced enough they cant have one?
Or we could say, dump the poll all together. This isn't statistic making here. We're not trying to find the numbers of people into Lovebots or not. So so many threads need to throw in a poll for utterly no reason. A discussion is much better then a number giving you a yay or nay to a question.bluemarsman said:Seconded, the poll needs fixing.xtreme_phoenix said:buddy, you can't ask an either/or question and then provide yes and no as the only answers.
Huh. My first thought was Chobits.m_jim said:When I read this, all I could see was flashes of the movie Blade Runner going through my mind. I'll go with xmetatr0nx and say that a robot =/= a real woman. No matter how sophisticated the AI, while you were...utilizing the robot, you would know in the back of your mind that it is indeed "artificial."
I agree totally. I think that iblis's speculation that the robot population would overtake the human one is hard to fathom. Where would you put 7 billion person sized robots? Where would you get the raw materials to make them all? And, as you pointed out, how many people could actually afford them? Human lovin' is totally the way to go.NeutralDrow said:Huh. And no, they won't end humanity. Do you honestly think that kind of technology would be embraced worldwide? Even if many do opt for a robot companion (which I see less wrong with than I'd thought I would), it's not going to be universal. Even if you overcome the numerous cultural boundaries, these are still going to be luxury items only. Hot and sweaty organic sex is still culturally safer and much, much cheaper.
Then again, SkyNet doesn't really produce Love-bots, now does itxxhazyshadowsxx said:Is it wrong to feel slightly awkward answering this?

Unless SkyNet ever comes along..
But what about Arnie? HOW CAN YOU DENY HIM?!woem said:Then again, SkyNet doesn't really produce Love-bots, now does itxxhazyshadowsxx said:Is it wrong to feel slightly awkward answering this?

If you really have to pick one, I'd rather go with Cameron...are.you.the.god.its.me.vader said:But what about Arnie? HOW CAN YOU DENY HIM?!woem said:Then again, SkyNet doesn't really produce Love-bots, now does itxxhazyshadowsxx said:Is it wrong to feel slightly awkward answering this?

Someone has been watching too much Ghost in the Shell..Neonbob said:End of humanity. Because some wiseass hacker would screw with the programming so that instead of pleasuring you, the bot would horribly kill you.
After about twenty such deaths, humans would no longer be able to discern who was human and who was a sex bot, and be unwilling to risk such a violent end.
Obviously, this is only for the perfect sexbot, which would be an incredibly convincing human analogue.
