Wat? This is the craziest thing I have read all day. You don't understand how genetics works, do you?
Setting that aside, robots do not have a personality. They can have randomized reactions that are generated by an AI, but that is the voice of the programmer who designed the robot, not the robot itself.
i think you misunderstood im referring to the rise of the companion bot since more than likely they would after a few years outnumber the human population not her offspring which would most likely be human unless instead of a human reproductive system she had a small cloning pod that would recombined the semen into usable dna, clone a child, and then give it cybernetic implants even a partial cybernetic brain.

As for robots not having personalities in 100 years they might and technically speaking we are really just biological machines who is to say that machines in the future might and if this is a soul argument how do you know you have one and who is to say that if a machine is advanced enough they cant have one?
First off, you can't just create an exact duplicate of someone's DNA, weld it together, and get a functioning human being. Within a few generations, these retarded robo-babies would be riddled with debilitating birth defects for the same reason that you can't have sex with your cousin.
If you read what I wrote, I never mentioned anything about a soul; I'm talking about a machine that reproduces human-like behavior. Right now, scientists are high-fiving each other because they taught a computer to play Pitfall [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92658]. Since it takes the computer ten minutes to figure out how to jump over the log, I'm going to say that we have a while before we have to worry about free-thinking robots. This isn't even mentioning the horrifying dead-eyed stare that any "lifelike" automatrons have. It's not so much "hey this thing is sexy" as it is "hey this thing is going to murder me while I sleep."

buddy, you can't ask an either/or question and then provide yes and no as the only answers.
Seconded, the poll needs fixing.
Or we could say, dump the poll all together. This isn't statistic making here. We're not trying to find the numbers of people into Lovebots or not. So so many threads need to throw in a poll for utterly no reason. A discussion is much better then a number giving you a yay or nay to a question.

Sex with robots will never reach the satisfaction of sex with women (or men if you're a straight woman or gay man).

We already have a love bot. The companion cube, srsly whats up with you guyz? How'd you forget the companion cube.

But slightly more OT, it is probably a lot further off than most people imagine. But yes there will one day be 'love' bots, thought I doubht they'll be used for actually love.

Just for sex, gratification, and my plan for world domination.

When I read this, all I could see was flashes of the movie Blade Runner going through my mind. I'll go with xmetatr0nx and say that a robot =/= a real woman. No matter how sophisticated the AI, while you were...utilizing the robot, you would know in the back of your mind that it is indeed "artificial."
Huh. My first thought was Chobits.

And no, they won't end humanity. Do you honestly think that kind of technology would be embraced worldwide? Even if many do opt for a robot companion (which I see less wrong with than I'd thought I would), it's not going to be universal. Even if you overcome the numerous cultural boundaries, these are still going to be luxury items only. Hot and sweaty organic sex is still culturally safer and much, much cheaper.

I agree totally. I think that iblis's speculation that the robot population would overtake the human one is hard to fathom. Where would you put 7 billion person sized robots? Where would you get the raw materials to make them all? And, as you pointed out, how many people could actually afford them? Human lovin' is totally the way to go.

There is no way I'm sticking my dick into one of those, no way in hell. That seems equivalent to thrusting ones genitals into a lusting mains socket.

Is it wrong to feel slightly awkward answering this?

OT: Nothing will replace humans to the point where it becomes the norm for machines.
Unless SkyNet ever comes along..
Then again, SkyNet doesn't really produce Love-bots, now does it :p

But what about Arnie? HOW CAN YOU DENY HIM?!

If you really have to pick one, I'd rather go with Cameron...

A love bot would only spell the end of humanity if it were realistic enough to actually develop an emotional connection with. Sure, it will be the greatest invention in the history of the world for men aged 13 - 21 but eventually most men grow up and realize that sex, like booze, is not the greatest thing in the universe. Eventually most people want more than a warm, wet place to stick their willy.

Why are the options for an either-or-question "yes" and "no"?
I just assumed "yes" meant end of the world so I voted no. Because if robot dogs couldn't even drive off real dogs then it sure as hell isn't going to happen to people.

End of humanity. Because some wiseass hacker would screw with the programming so that instead of pleasuring you, the bot would horribly kill you.

After about twenty such deaths, humans would no longer be able to discern who was human and who was a sex bot, and be unwilling to risk such a violent end.

Obviously, this is only for the perfect sexbot, which would be an incredibly convincing human analogue.
Someone has been watching too much Ghost in the Shell..
