Once, only once...it was soooo ridiculously confusing. The weird thing is , always when i sleep and see something that isn't logical at all , i think as it is logical and possible. But only once in a dream, i could understand that this was not the real world, an realized the truth: i was dreaming. And the funniest thing is, of all the things that i have seen that have no logic at all, like giant cat-people etc, the ONE THING, the ONLY thing that made me realize i was dreaming was THIS:
i had two rabbits, who i owned in real life too. They were white-and-brown in the dream, but in real life, they were black and brown.

And yes, that funny fact made me realize that i could do ANYTHING i want because i was in a dream. Sadly, i don't know why, i kind of a teleported myself next to a pool of clear water, holding in my hands a jar filled with leeches. Then i woke up. At first i was like, wtf was with the leeches and all ,but then i remembered everything and was sad that i didn't use the opportunity for something really awesome.

I haven't had one in years. Every night now I have the same dream.
Different people asking me to help them and ignore the plight of the others in need of help. More and more people start surrounding me asking me to help them. Eventually I am smothered by the helpless masses.

twice in my life, once when I was very young dreaming about dogs chasing me... suddenly I stopped and said, "wait.... wasn't I in bed?" so my dream changed to a rambo like dream (keep in mind I was a kid)

the second one I was a teenager, I started dreaming that I was falling, and again I realized it was not possible, so I decided to fly... it was awsome

I had a massive interest in the whole concept of lucid dreaming a while back, I ended up having one lucid dream, which was great, but I've since given up on it and scrapped my dream journal. I also don't sleep half as much anymore, and chronic sleep deprivation seems to have ruined my memory and dream recall. =/
You can always regain your ability. You just need to tell yourself to remember your dreams before you go to sleep. Just repeat it like a mantra in your head. Works for me.
Yeah I might give it a go again and see if I have better luck. Just got to remember to get in the habit of doing those damn reality checks!
Yes indeed. The one I do is counting fingers. I count all the fingers on hands that I see. When I am in a dream and I look at my hand it has more or less fingers, or they are morphing somehow. That way I recognise it and become lucid.

I've had a lot actually. I was having a nightmare about some creature in a horror movie, and I summoned a superhero to kick it's ass. Another time I tried to wake up by having a S.W.A.T team fire on me. And the dream had nothing to do with S.W.A.T.

I don't see how you train yourself to dream though...
You can. One of the leading researchers is the scientist Stephen LaBerge. He teaches different techniques to induce lucid dreaming. Check it out for yourself.

Lucid dreams were a fairly common thing for me when i was much younger, useually i would be haveing a nightmare, and realiseing this i would yell (in my dream) for somebody to come wake me up. Now-a-days however i don't dream as much, let alone have Lucid dreams.

I've had lucid moments in dreams.
The most defined was just after I died in one dream. I was stabbed through the back and out through the front by a large spike thing. Just below the last rib. Switch to third person. Oh crap, I'm dead. I'm dead? Wait. Where am I? The area around me turns solid white. Oh, I must be dreaming. Hmmm... Well I guess I'm not dead then. My dream continued with the dream me waking back up with a large black scar thing over where I was stabbed. I didn't even know I was dreaming again until I woke up. Funny thing is, whenever I see myself in a dream anymore, I still have the scar.
Sorry to tell you this but thats an alternate dimension. You wouldn't believe the stuff that happens there...

It's about time I did a thread on this. Lucid Dreaming [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dreaming] is the ability to know that you are dreaming, when you are dreaming. Like being in waking life, but as your dream self. I have had a few lucid dreams, most of which I haven't been 100% aware that I was able to do everything, but I did know I was dreaming. The possibilities with the technique the infinite once you perfect it. Heres a video that explains it somewhat.

The video has embedding disabled, just watch it on youtube.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYTgTxSoITY

Lucid dreams are unique, there is nothing quite like it. Although they may not be tangible at first, the more you practice doing it - The better they get. They can provide insight and help you to understand yourself better.

So my question is - Have you ever had a lucid dream?

[small]If you are interested in learning about it go here [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3GJTkG60X4]. Only watch his videos on lucid dreaming, the rest are terrible. [/small]
No, I usually can't tell that I'm dreaming. They are usually very accurate reruns of my day. Since I'm a lifeguard, i'm usually just sitting in my chair. Although sometimes very bizarre elements such as being an anthromorphic mongoose as a lifeguard and having to oversee a waterpolo game consisting of various VG characters is pretty obvious and tells me that I'm dreaming.

One time sticks out in my head.

I was dreaming a pretty standard dream. If you can call it that. For some reason, i suddenly realized i was dreaming inside of the dream. At that point I remember my dream dissipating around me. And i was stuck floating in complete darkness, Until i woke up. Hours later. Or at least it felt like hours.
and now i can kill people with my mind

Weird-ed me out.

Yeah I have. It was a weird experience. It happened ages ago though, so I can't really remember it too well.

Sure, there were a couple times I realised I was dreaming.
Somehow however, I never quite realised that I can basically do anything in that state, so I usually just woke up.

*unrelated*
But the worst dream I had was absolutely normal. It was just like real life; working with dad on the car then doing some work in the garden.
Then I woke up and realised my dad's been dead for a while. Made me say "fuck".
