There is technology being used already to initiate them. It uses a series of flashing lights that
just permeate through your eyelids while you sleep, letting you know you're dreaming.

You'll find you are alot happier with the real world when you lucid dream. It can be extremely insightful in relation to waking life. Dreaming is like talking to your consciousness so you don't know what you might discover.
Also there have been reports of people extending time in their dreams, and living for what feels like a week in the dream world, only to wake up and find they've been asleep for 8-9 hours. The possibilities are, as I said, endless.
