I think I heard somewhere that it will be split up into squads of eight, and you will chat with them and not the whole room.Sion_Barzahd said:I've yet to get ahold of a beta for it, and likely never will. Any idea how the voice chat will work?
I mean as someone said before, it'll be pretty chaotic with 256 players gabbing away. Hell it gets hard to bare on some chatty TF2 servers and thats only 31 people
I think they will break it into squads, otherwise it'd be insane. Honestly i can't imagine how else it'd work.Ontoue said:I think I heard somewhere that it will be split up into squads of eight, and you will chat with them and not the whole room.Sion_Barzahd said:I've yet to get ahold of a beta for it, and likely never will. I could be wrong though...
Just saying...
One word works and agreed. There will be 256 players but I question 2 things. 1) this has got to be laggy as all hell, anyway to stop the lag and keep it gone? 2) Why? I was happy with 12 in CoD4 and saddened with 40 in Resistance 2.Programmed_For_Damage said:I've got one word for you - clusterfuck... or should that be two?
It works.SinisterSpud said:well,i just heard about a game called M.A.G (Massive action game) exclusively for the PS3 and it supposedly is going to have 256 players in a single game,i just wanted to know do you think having 256 players in a single game is a good idea,if so why?
It's an interesting system, but what makes it any different than just playing two CoD matches on the same map at the same time? Where's the inter-squad relations? Can't 3-4 platoons gang up on one platoon? Don't you think there'd be a whole lot of infighting among who gets to squad, platoon and team leaders?Pandazooka said:It works.SinisterSpud said:well,i just heard about a game called M.A.G (Massive action game) exclusively for the PS3 and it supposedly is going to have 256 players in a single game,i just wanted to know do you think having 256 players in a single game is a good idea,if so why?
You're probably thinking 256 players in a typical console's "large" FPS map. There are gameplay videos where the demonstrator opened up a map that gives an overview of the entire field. One fifth of the map is about the size of a typical "large" FPS map.
256 players will fit nicely into these large maps. The players are divided into 2 opposing teams (of course), and both teams will have 4 platoons, each consisting of 4 squads of 8 players. From one battle that I watched, the attacking team assaults a base from 4 different directions. I'm guessing both teams have a platoon attacking and defending each direction. I don't know how many players that map holds, but I counted around 30-40 players on one team attacking each side. You can't see opposing team players on the map, so I don't know the total number.By doing this, the maps don't end up being completely chaotic and unplayable. For CoD4 players on the consoles, it's NOT like putting 12 players in Shipment.
And for the voice chat, it's all organized. The game is focused on co-ordinated squad tactics. There's something of a hierarchy. Squad members can only communicate between their own squad. Squad LEADERS can communicate among other squad leaders and the PLATOON leader. Squad leaders can't hear chatter from another squad's members. The platoon leaders can communicate amongst each other and the TEAM leader. Platoon leaders can't hear the chatter from another platoon's members. So you won't hear ALL 128 players on one side clogging up your headset's speaker.
Ugh! The typos that I make.
