I'm quite stuck. I only have enough money for one, and scores are looking quite even for the both. Steam demo for AvP is downloading right now, but I likely won't have much time for it.

Which do you prefer?

The AvP demo is pretty damn awesome, and I don't know what MAG stands for off the top of my head, so yeah, AvP is my verdict. Either way it's really good imo, and has good longetivity since the MP is great and the single player has 3 seperate campaigns.

EDIT: Quick google search and I remember what MAG is. Looked pretty meh'ish to me, so my vote still stands with AvP

PS: Xenomorphs do rock.

I haven't played MAG yet, but the AvP demo is really good, so I guess I have to say AvP.
Xenomorphs rock.

MAG is fantastic but can have a steep learning curve if you're not that good at FPS. But after a few games you start to improve greatly. Lots of fun, and the objective based play make it quite a bit different than most other recent shooters. Really good if you get a buddy or two to join your squad, with a few good players you can just run a train through people, or hold off hordes of enemies. And i do mean hordes, i once had just me and a quarter of my platoon (the rest were respawning) fending off around 50 guys at once! That's something only MAG can offer.

AvP on PC screams "console port". If you don't have time for the demo, don't waste your money on the game.

edit: this post of mine goes into a little more detail. The design is poor regardless of platform, it's just that the PC version is fucked up in ways above and beyond that. One thing I didn't mention in that post was awful FOV that is not consistent with PC standards, far less the superior original AvP setup.

AvP seems good from the demos. MAG is ok, but I've got bored of it already. I would personally go with AvP.

depends, do you want a stupidly(not meant disrespectfully) large, scale wise, battlefield game?

or do you want a more personal, close quarters, claustrophobic shooter, with a single player

having a decent(ish) gaming pc, i would go with AvP, because, even if mag was on pc, i have all the battlefield game, and there for a game to scratch the large scale warfare itch

so yea

As a player of MW2 I struggle to imagine wanting to play MAG as well. As far as I can tell, superficially, there's just too much similarity to warrant both on my shelf currently. Granted, MAG might be better than MW2 for all I know but AvP is so different via the three races available. Plus Aliens are just sweet.

If you choose AVP, get it on the PS3. I downloaded the AvP demo off steam and it's a disgraceful experience. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the PC is different from the consoles and P2P doesn't work. I'm fucking sick of the lag and worse, the host crashes, associated with it. If it's too much effort to release a PC port, THEN DON'T!

Make sure you play the demo first, because AvP is the epidimy of the term 'consoletard' (I don't mean that as flame, it simply is a game that wasn't made for the PC and should have been left off of it).

Can I get a "Neither" option.

Save yourself a lot of money.

Buy a used copy of Uncharted 1 and download Revenge of the Wounded Dragon from the PSN.

I've been hearing very bland things about both. I suppose it depends on whether you want an unbalanced sci-fi shoot-em-up, or a massive military shoot-em-up.

Well, MAG gets really old fast. I mean, even with the learning curve, once you get the hang of it, it gets repetitive. I've been playing my PS3's AVP, and aside from Ranked Matches taking a long time to connect, I really enjoy my copy of AVP, I mean its fun, constantly shifting as far as play style, and as far as I can tell, very balanced, so no "BFG gun" moments. Sure, you'll find something you're really good with, but nothing that can't be beat.
