I used to play, but no one plays where I live and it's a pretty expensive hobby. I haven't looked at my cards for a long time, so I'll only post the best flavor text I remember. It was off some red pyro mage creature that could ping for one damage every turn (I think).

Of course you should fire with fire. You should fight everything with fire.

Twisted magic, twisted fate
Force the land to ooze with hate - Caustic land (or was it tar?)

and

I've heard of putting out the cat but this is ridiculous - Paedric Fire Cat

Yep, an old Vintage player here. Favourite flavour is probably on Goblin Bombardment.

"One mogg to aim the catapult, one mogg to steer the rock."
I think goblin assault exemplifies the goblin spirit better.
"Fire! Aim! Ready!"
I dunno, strapping a goblin to a rock to help "steer" it shows the suspect "ingenuity" of the goblins.

Now, I like this one for a slightly bizarre reason. Back in my second year at uni, I managed to get away with quoting it in a philosophy tutorial during a discussion on slavery. Which amused me and my fellow Magic player in the room, whilst sounding pithy and relevant to everyone else. I think one of us may have quoted it in an essay and attributed it to Capashen, G, too.

Other than that, Spinal Graft makes me snigger, too.

It's just so very apt for Volrath. Plus it has Ron Spencer art on it, and Ron did the best stuff for both M:TG and WoD.

I stopped playing Magic around about the time stuff like Prophecy and Invasion hit.

Oh, and I almost forgot about

If it's anything like Duel Masters, I'd play it.
Duel Masters is a simplified version of Magic. You'd probably like Magic.

The flavor text of these cards :
Creature Guy
Save Life
Deal Damage
Spell Counter
Kill Destroy

"There once was a player named Quinn, who consistently managed to win. Until he got singed, playing Unhinged, getting Gotcha'd again and again."

My favourite flavour text comes from Turn to Mist:

"Did you expect me to dodge? How quaint."

Because it's just plain awesome, and fits the card perfectly.

But if you include the Unglued set then it has to be Handcuffs:

"That was fun! Now me."

Because hur hur hur, bondage...

There are plenty of other funny ones listed here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Funny/MagicTheGathering

Sounds engaging then. Duel Masters is pretty damn simple I have to say. Time to recruit my friend into playing >:D

I use a black/red power deck. Not many +life cards, alot of nasty "it's flying now and I just put it's numbers up by 3 each" cards, quite a few artifacts and a ton of life that's quite easy to get out. Most of the beasties need under 6 to summon. It tends to die quickly if I don't get a good few monster draws early on, but once 3 or 4 are out and I have a few spells/attatchments, it just keeps on rolling :D

Yes since BETA. I have stopped a few times but always come back. As for quotes "Ach! Hans, Run! It's the Lhurgoyf!" - Saffi Eriksdotter, last words. From the green classic beast (OK the type on the card is not beast but still) Lhurgoyf.
I waited all the way until Unlimited and didn't really get into it until Revised. Kind of a shame, because I missed out on having stacks of cheap Alpha moxes and black lotuses and stuff just sitting around like a couple friends who started at the very beginning. I stopped before 2000 and mostly don't play, but I come back every now and then, usually in whatever way is the most cost effective, like when my roommates and I used to have drafts in our apartment several years ago and play with the decks we ended up with for a few weeks using only those cards.

Also, I believe this is obligatory [http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=73935].

I like Razorfield Thresher: DANGER! Keep appendages clear of front of machine. And rear of machine. And side of machine. And top of machine.
I also quite like Goblin Grenade: Don't underestimate the aerodynamic qualities of the common goblin.
Basically any goblin card will be funny.
