The magic system was one of the (many) reasons FF8 occupies a position in my all-time bottom 10 games.
Thank you. I def feel like the minority saying that i didn't enjoy ff8 at all.

Wait minority!? more like majority. I know of very few people, even die hard FF fans that liked this game. I know it's all a matter of taste, and I can understand if some liked this game, but jesus it was one of the most broken RPG's I've ever played. The whole junction, stat and magic system had great potential and I saw the vision and knew how amazing of a system it could have bin, but it was just so bogged down by over complexity that it caved in on itself. A few tweaks and refinement and it would have been a whole lot more bearable.

I've been planning to buy FF8. Should I be worried about it?
Well, watch Spoony's review [http://www.spoonyexperiment.com/category/final-fantasy-viii/] and then you tell me.
Beat me to it.

Yea i know exactly what your saying, and that card game was absolute garbage. TO me it just seems that this game gets mega praise on these boards, why i have no idea. I love the final fantasy series as much as any fanboy could but i respect them for different reasons. Not just because. To me 8 is like 12 where i just didn't simply didn't give a crap about anything going on. and god knows i tried so hard to like that game.

I loved it, it was interesting and refreshing in comparison to the others. A great game in my opinion. Sadly its not as enjoyed by all as much as it was by me.

I found it immensely tedious, but the payoff you get through the brilliant and versatile Junction system made it more than worth it. It wasn't quite as refined as VII's Materia system was, but it was unique, and I'd take it over traditional "learn the spells as you level up, use MP to cast the spells" system any day.

I think people tend to blow it out of proportion, especially considering once you learn the Magic Refine skills from your GFs, you pretty much never have to draw anything outside of other GFs and rare spells from bosses again.
