I know this is a controversial subject and that my opinion is often seen as wrong in this question. But i've always thought that Zelda Majoras Mask was a better game, funnier, more intelligent and with a bigger RP element than Zelda Ocarina of time. Just to be on the clear. I still love both of the games, but i would love to hear your opinions on the question.

While they were both great games Ocarina just pulled harder than Majoras mask, don't get me wrong it was a great game with a nice concept, but it was also at times a little frustrating and almost felt like a rehash with a lot of the same elements from the last game (lol though most zelda games do). So in the end i fell Ocarina of Time just had gotten there first with broader appeal

Ocarina of Time for me because I believe the design for all the towns and temples are perfect and the atmosphere was just breath taking. The medely's to me are also alot better, in the end it just all added up to perfection and I didn't have any problems with it besides the fact that I wish it was harder.

i didn't actually enjoy majora's mask. i HATED that time contraint, and all the waiting around and jumpiong back in time. i know you could play song of time backwards and slow time down, but it really didn't help

I have to say Majoras mask, as far as sequels go its one of the best i have ever played and just the fact that it didn't have Zelda or Ganondorf in it makes it all the better

Personally, I prefer Ocarina Of Time, but there are a few things that I prefer in Majora's Mask, such as there being more side stories instead of games and also the dungeons are more challenging and also you can re-fight the bosses.

I actually liked MM more than Ocarina. I loved the transformation elements, the dark and twisted atmosphere, and the 3 day time-limit.

I know some people didn't like that 3 day thing but frankly I loved it. It really set the mood of inevitable doom, hanging up there in the sky as the moon drew ever closer. I also had a look at a Zelda discussion website once and it talked about the 4th temple and examined some things I just skimmed over before. It made me think a lot more about that temple and the history that was never explained for it.

Although I was young at the time so that's probably why I didn't notice.

I like both games, I just prefer Ocarina of Time! It was the first one I played, obviously, and it was great. I found Majoras Mask was all good and well, a different dynamic, some interesting elements, for a change it wasn't set in Hyrule, but though these differences made it new and interesting, they also, to me alienated itself, it didn't feel like a Zelda game. I mean, for a change it had sod all to do with Zelda, so it was more like just "The Adventures of Link", but that doesn't sell it for me. It was a good game, but just not as good as Ocarina of Time. But to each their own! Different strokes and all that! And woo! First vote!

Edit: I went on the phone and missed the first comment, but you know...

I... preferred Majora's Mask. I loved the mask system, and enjoyed the dungeons more. And besides, you get to rock out as a Zora.

I guess i was wrong :p
I thought more ppl would say Oot.

What i loved about MM was the side quests, and the timeline made the story for the sidequests completely logic.

Though i have to admit i did play MM before Oot

Can you go a bit more into detail about the 4th temple and what you know?

Even though I've only finished MM once and absolutely love Ocarina, I can tell you that Majora's Mask is a gem. The mood is right, you feel you're part of the world much more than Ocarina. The characters are deep, interactions with them meaningful. One of my favourite games ever! I'll vote for Majora just because it lives, and will always do, in the shadow of OoT.

Perhaps if the Zora mask had an electric guitar...

In all honesty, I did enjoy both quite a bit. To me though, the first felt more epic. Plus it was one of my first real video games, so it's got that going for it. In most ways beyond that (story, music, threats etc.), Ocarina felt slightly superior to me.

Still, to Skull Kid's credit, throwing a moon at someone was pretty awesome....

hard one...

i think they're both equal and complement each other
majoras mask was clocked full of so may sidequests

ocarina of time had a more epic (if more light hearted) plot

but the moon was epic in mm
but the zora tunic in oot
but the zora mask in mm

it's hard

Ocarina of Time was longer.

Bam. When quality is that high, quantity becomes what matters. Hah.

I'm starting to be constantly beaten by one post. This is in odd trend, how do you all know what I'm thinking :S

But yeah, that and also I loved the music and general freedom of OoT, I really felt that the music made the atmosphere for me.
While I loved majoras mask as well, I spent far less time on it in my first play through (my first play through tends to be very close to 100%, and 100% of OoT is by no means a small feat...that fourth bottle took forever).

Because great minds think alike.

Also, because it's true.
