Majora's Mask was waaaay better. I'm not going into a huge rant, nor am reading all the comments, because I know MM was better.

It's gotta be OoT for me. I fucking HATE that Time system on Majora's mask. if you screwed up like getting a certain child to marry a womans's mask, you had to start the fucking thing all over again! Oh and the item/Ruppee loss. That just put the Poisoned Icing on the Exploding Cake.
That is what the bank was for.

I personally found OoT to be better than MM. Not only did I not like the time limit in Majora's Mask, I despised having to do the same sets of puzzles over again just for my desire to backtrack. It almost seemed like the game was punishing me for missing things the first time through. Or having me play through three whole days just to miss that damned Couple's Mask.

The Water Temples in both games made me cringe, but the one in MM caused me more mental pain than the one in OoT. I also had problems with MM freezing on me, but that was probably due to it being a GC port...

It also felt difficult to accept that Termina wasn't Hyrule with most of the NPCs coming directly from OoT (like Koume and Kotake...). AND the game brought Tingle into the world. *shudders*

Never got around to purchasing Majora when it was still available for the N64. I wanted to borrow it from my cousin, but I wasn't able to. He also killed my ambition to play it by expressing his mild distaste for it (and seeing him play a part of it went over my head, further decreasing my ambition to play it). My sister's friend had a compilation for the GC, so we borrowed it. Neither of us enjoyed it much.

Well I had an unfair advantage. I counted down the days to the release of both games and bought both as soon as they came out.

That would do it. I think I was around eleven when this game came out, so I wasn't nearly as fanatical to get it as soon as it came out unlike some other games. Besides, I was having fun playing Banjo-Kazooie.

Majora's mask just wasn't a game for everybody like me. I loved Ocarina of Time but didn't care for Majora's Mask.

Before Ocarina I was totally absorbed by Starfox 64.

Can't we choose neither?? Cause for me, as far as the 3D Zeldas go, from best to worst, its:

Wind Waker -> Ocarina of Time -> Twilight Princess -> Majora's Mask

I find that Ocarina of Time is the better game. As much as I respect the ways that Majora's Mask branched from the rest of the Zelda franchise (different gameplay elements), I find that Ocarina of Time succeeded at what it tried more than Majora's Mask. Majora's Mask tried the 3 day time limit, which adds tension and a forboding sense of doom (which works for the game's story), but it also adds a damn time limit. And God forbid you're just a few minutes late to a time-specific quest.

Some of the other elements were frustrating as well. For example, the Goron form's rolling ability is a particular ***** to control, and you can't very well get the second-best sword in the game (i.e. the sword to replace your sucktastic starting sword) unless you master that annoying ability. The same applies to Zora Link's swimming, though to a lesser extent.

There's also the matter of difficulty. In Ocarina of Time, the only quest that comes to mind that was abominably difficult was the quest for the Biggoron Sword. Difficulty of that magnitude in Majora's Mask is a bit more... plentiful. One extremely difficult quest is one in which you save the local farm girl (who looks exactly like Malon from Ocarina of Time) from being abducted by aliens. For those of you who've never played Majora's Mask, no, I'm not kidding. There's fucking aliens. And my success rate for that mission was absurdly low.

Admittedly, Ocarina of Time does not try nearly as many new things as Majora's Mask, but the things it tries it does usually very well (the horse race, which I just remembered, is a notable exception; oh, and the Biggoron Sword quest). While Majora's Mask was a bold move for the franchise, it ended up biting off more than it could chew, and in the end, it was a mixed bag because of it. It was also far more depressing than Ocarina of Time, in addition to not having bosses and music up to snuff with Ocarina's.

I will give Majora's Mask one piece of praise, however. Fierce Deity Link is seven shades of badass.

A longer game doesn't mean a better game. I preferred Majora's Mask better than Ocarina of Time. Especially because the Song of Time became useful, not just to get rid of some random obstacles.

I liked how the objective was always clear (it's right at the centre of the game the whole time) and the time management and control aspects were things I'd like to see in some more games. Yeah, it's a little annoying loosing all your items, but it's a Zelda game; all stackables are easy to stock up on. Admittedly, I liked hacking the time so that it stayed put when I told it to, but that's just because I think more sandbox is cool.

What other game has an imp wearing a super mask of evil and power trying to crash the moon into a parallel reality while you loop time to gather the resources to stop him?
And it's got giants who step in to hold up the evil looking moon!
That last spoiler warning was almost pointless wasn't it? Because if you are here and voting, you've played the whole game, right?
If you haven't played the game: play it.

Who else wants a game like this for the next console generation? Or even an indie PC version.
Imagine the possibilities... Multiple timelines, more time control, an unbelievably detailed routine, better consequences which you can watch play out in a multitude of different ways... *salivates*

That's...another game I never played on the N64, which I'm ashamed to admit. Granted, the system was my brother's, which he bought for GoldenEye, I think. We eventually got OoT, Smash Bros., Mario Party, and Mario Kart, which roughly ends the list of games I played on the system.

Actually, wait, that's not entirely true. I played Starfox 64 recently, but only once. I got to Macbeth and died. Never really had a desire to go try again, for some reason...
