I am no friend to the ME generation. (ME as in Millennial not as in MEMEMEMEMEME!!! although a case can be made). While you do have some great things such as the suggested tolerance level or some of the best cartoons, honestly there are so many things that keep the ME generation from being considered the new greatest generation.

Lack of patience, information on demand that negates the need to "learn" anything are definitely my two biggest concerns for the ME generation. Honestly if there is some sort of apocalypse I doubt very much the ME generation would survive very well on its own.

The best generation? That's what the generation before said, and the generation before that, and the generation before that, and so on and so forth.

Sure technology might be getting better, but people are getting worse and worse every year.

OP, I think you're only seeing what you want to see. The community on the Escapist is what you describe, but they are not an accurate cross section of society. Racism and Homophobia are still widespread, they just cannot show themselves in the way they used to so instead we've reached a level of tolerance.

Ask 100 people on the street what they think of homosexuals, the majority will say "They can do what they want, as long as I'm not involved". That's not them saying "Yeah, being gay is cool, I like gays" it's saying "Yeah I accept that it happens but I don't want anything to do with it"

Untill you find some way of shutting off human nature, there will never, ever be world peace. Ideals will conflict, beliefs will conflict and there will always be those who want to take it a step further than live and let live. Even class is a factor, whilst a divide in wealth still exists, there will still be resentment and conflict.

This generation has the luxury of being the liberal free thinkers who think we are going to save the world, because we haven't really had to do jack shit. I see on here, whenever a natural disaster occurs people talk about giving money or aid, which only happens because we find ourselves in a position to do so. Ask the 13-17% of Americans living under the poverty line if they are going to be giving to Japan or Pakistan and the reply will most likely be "WTF? You serious? I can barely put food on the table or clothe my own family".

Due to our rather well off position I see alot of something else in this generation, something I find incredibly unsavoury. Elitism. The targets are no longer race or sexuality, but there is a hell of alot of "I'm better than you and if the world was better all of those like you would be gone". Replace the world "black" with "smoker" and you have exactly the same attitude people had 50 years ago, same feelings, different target. Of course, we as a generation justify it, make the dislike seem like a good thing...just the same as they used to for other ethnicities or homosexuals.

This generation, is exactly the same as the one before us, and the one before them. Those that come after us will be exactly the same. Sure there are little differances here and there, social views change but at the heart of it all, we're still people.

We also get the fun responsibility of cleaning up the mess caused by the 2-3 generations who decided to fuck everything up before us[footnote]Only the small things, like international relations, bloated and wasteful political systems, lack of public infrastructure, declining quality in schools, environmental concerns (including CO2 emissions and the like), the economy, corruption in the private sector (particularly investment firms and banks), the trend of pushing young people into unnecessary and expensive tertiary education, mass debt and of course the higher costs of living due to ovepopulation.[/footnote]. That and nobody of in gen y seems to give two shits about the direction of the country, that they are hugely cynical and dishearted by the endless education system that we are forced through (generally without a relevant job or career at the end).

....Yeah, I see no reason why we won't be the 'best' generation ever, I mean, the generations before us only inherited a stable economy, less bloated and more efficient government structure, no debt, affordable housing and a strong job market. We totally should exceed their achievements without even trying or caring!

As always, it's an iffy kind of thing. The more a generation realizes that the last was under-par, the more it's gonna have to try to do better. I'm not entirely sure about it all, but here's hoping.

Maybe if the generation matures but our generation can't even sell girl scout cookies from door to door because of paranoia and kids don't look both ways before crossing the street. We may be making progress but we're forgetting a few important things along the way. I feel weird when I call my friends because it feels so old fashion but I'd rather do that and actually talk to them than just txt them or post on facebook.

every generation thinks its the best because we judge our generation by our standards and each generation has different standards so every generation is the best to them selves.

I can't say because you won't know until after the generation has come and gone.

This topic is too broad for one thread I think.

Man it would be perfect, if we weren't so lazy huh. I skimmed a article about this, I would find it but I don't feel like it.

I admire your optimism, but I don't think you are in touch with reality. However if your generation, whatever one it is, does happens to be the greatest generation in history I will, if deceased rise up from my grave and give you a salute.

I feel this is all a load a B/S to be honest. Every generation seems to become more corrupt, less in touch with themselves, and sporting ideals that would make a inbred hick's 12 year old pregnant wife look like she's got a hope in the world.

Wake up, our generation is more statisticly likely to kill off civilization than any other generation before it. We've lost our humanity, the connection between people, because all we do is use some sort of electronic interface to socialize these days. While actual physical connection seems to be looked down upon by society. Everything assumes you're a bad person. You act friendly (He's a creep) you are polite (don't open a door for me, that's sexist!) You refer to a person by the color of their skin (racist) You say hello to a child (Pedophile).

Not to mention our generation is full of lazy, surface viewing morons. Nothing goes beyond face value these days. We throw away more shit because something new comes along than any generation previous to us, yet you call us environmentally friendly?

Hell, I see kids these days whom work at my store, been working there for six months, and they still can't figure out how to read. What does the aisle sign about five say? It says poptarts...where do they think poptarts are when asked? THEY ASK ME BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO STUPID TO FIGURE IT OUT!!

None of them possess situational awareness(the ability to be aware of all your surroundings with a quick glance) and understand how to grade at a moments glance what is a priority and what is not. They constantly cross the lines of rules and proper conduct (chewing gum, ignoring customers, not being friendly.)

I'm quite sure, if the United States survives long enough for our generation to be in power, we will systematically wipe it off the face of the earth with our own idealistic view of "what's better."

I fear the future, because the future is us, and we are worthless.

There is likely quite an age range in these forums, you may want to state which generation you are referring to.

There's a lot of truth in that. Technology continues to improve, which is massively important...it's easy to overlook, say, medical advances because people tend to take them for granted.

Also, there's quite alot of social progress as well. People may complain about the levels of racism and homophobia and so on (and with good cause), but it's less than it was. In Western nations, homosexuality was illegal within living memory, women getting the vote not long before then. The last US state to allow mixed race marriages did so in 1975, IIRC.

The problems society has now might seem new and exciting, but they are less than the old fashioned boring ones that are now declining.
