I drive a manual. But then I do live in North Queensland, Australia. You're seriously better off driving a manual here. Preferably a four-wheel-drive with low range. You need the edge that extra control gives you.

I suppose it would be slightly trickier to drive a manual in traffic, but then, if you only drive a manual, it's pretty easy to just accelerate because gear shifting becomes second-nature to you.

Manual. Never did learn to drive well with the automatic. Switching away from manual for a while after I got my license was almost like trying to learn to drive again, the perceived loss of control was staggering, having to get used to perhaps two to three times greater use of breaks and the missing clutch was making my foot itch from having to suppress muscle memory. I also like the engine braking I can do with manual to great effectivness, most of the time I don't even need the breaks while on traffic, only when completely stopping.

I can drive both but if I have any say in the matter I always drive manual.

Manual. Automatic may not provide all the power it has. E.g. A car with 200 horsepower at 7000 RPM in an automatic may up-shift at only 6000 RPM, therefore not unleashing the power the car is branded with.

Depends on the mood I'm in, I suppose. When I was a delivery driver, I liked automatics, because I could just sit back and chill. Most of the time I stick with manual though.

I'm surprised there are so many people who prefer a manual, based purely on the fact that no American I have ever met has known how to drive one.

I prefer manual because it has a greater feeling of control, and because heel-toeing is awesome. I do however currently drive a BMW 525i Automatic.

I drive auto simply because my parents had all autos, therefore I could never practice in a manual and hence learnt in auto... Never driven manual in my life.

My car was an excellent find. It's a 1999 Taurus so she's 10 years old but only has about 60,000 miles on her (seriously gotta love elderly owners!!). She runs great, and I know most of her history because it was my sister's car first.
Ya know, from those that drive Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, I hear nothing but great things about those cars. and 60,000 on a 99 is fantastic. As long as you keep up with regular maintenance (oil changes, air filter, fuel filter, spark plug and plug wire changes, and auto transmission oil changes) your taurus will last forever.
good! cause i love my baby!!
